Anyone got some words on advice:

Trying to quantify the cost of an axle regear + bearings + lockers

What do you want to do? With that 4 banger I would put a couple of lunch box lockers in it and run it. I ran tru locks in a 350SB powered CJ7 with 37" tires, NP435 4 speed, and a Dana 300 TC, never had an issue.

If the plan is to add more power, I would look into a G2 D44 with a OX/ARB 4WD parts Has them at about 2500 figure gears bearing locker labor if needed is at or near there But added piece of mind with a D44.

Doubt I would ever go bigger than 35's with this jeep, especially without built axles. Seems like a waste and just asking for trouble with an old jeep.

But I guess I'm saving time and money by flight everything at once.

Ran a lockright in my old CJ7 and once you got used to it's on road habits it was great and never had an issue. It was noisy but that was just a reminder that I'd upgraded the jeeps capabilities.

On my current TJ I'm juggling the difference between just putting some aftermarket axles in mine along with a lockright vs. Explorer 8.8 swap with regear to match the front and locker. It's a pretty substantial price difference not to mention my lack of labor motivation in making the 8.8 fit. I've got till fall though to figure it out most likely.

An axle swap would be more enticing except living in an apartment...no where to work and can't leave half a jeep in the parking lot.

At the same time dumping a lot of money into axles makes them nice and strong, but everything else on the jeep is 12 years and 134k miles old

Yep, I'm tossing the same issues back and forth! Slide in some superior axles and toss in a lunchbox... Can do it fairly cheap and in a day vs. quite a bit of fab work. Luckily I have a garage and am capable of doing it... It's just a matter of how far I really want to dive in. I'm already on 35's with 4.56 gears. I do need to do a SYE sooner then later too though. I'm sick of staring at that lowered skidplate.

I know, mine is dropped like 2 inches and I hate it, but it allowed me to lift for cheaper. And actually I don't think I've gotten hung up on it yet.

But I'm not changing it until I have the money for a sye, new driveshaft, and belly up lift, that way I can do it all at once and the right way

I can't get the axle to droop anymore. I've disconnected the shocks, brake line bracket. These springs are "SUPPOSEDLY" 4-4.5" long compared to just having my 2" BB
