I have no idea but it makes sense. I never once pulled my speedo gear after I put in a new one. I never saw the need. I am not saying that is your issue but it very well could be.

The only reason it was an issue is because of the needle float on the gauge at 65. Other than that, it worked great and read just fine. I just don't want to ignore it thinking its normal and have the gears come apart and clog the oil filter and cook the TC. That would make for an unhappy powr!

I can understand that. Would make me unhappy as well. Always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to something like that.

There is no break in or wear in for a speedo gear. My best guess is that you aren't indexing it correctly from the get go. You cannot install it and then spin it where it needs to go. You need to be real close....say less than 1/4" away from where it needs to be, then you only adjust to get the hold down prong lined up. Otherwise the gear gets kicked over/misaligned and when you take off it puts pressure on it and causes what you describe.

Or, you could listen to Ricky. As I only ever did one (mine) and never had a reason to pull the gear, he likely has much more experience than I do.

That's a great idea, Greg. $200 if you open up the garage and another $200 if you help me with the swap.

How are you going to make the speedo work? The 241 uses a different system than the 231.

This whole thing started because his speedo "floats." How is he going to feel when it doesn't work at all? These are things you are going to have to work out if you steal my case. Then you are going to have to figure out how to make a 231 look like a 241 under my Jeep because otherwise I will know what is going on and the Police will know where to begin their search. Details man! Crime is all in the details!

Not to mention the public posts outlining the whole process?
I'll just take the tag pod of yours and glue it onto mine with a hot glue gun. You'll never know.
Ten bucks says you look when you get home! Rofl

By the way I stopped by your house on Friday and everything looked good. Did you want your ac bumped up a little bit while you are gone, your house felt as cold as mine.

My AC should have been set around 80? If it was colder, someone turned it down or the damn electric thermostat is programming itself again. That would explain my power bill though. If you don't mind, check it and take it back to 80-85.

Np, I will try to swing by tomorrow if I can. I even put those free newspapers in for you.

Also if we put your xfer case in powr's jeep it would be like preserving it, or putting it in a museum. Not like he ever hits the trail anyways.
