Here we are preparing our top ropes for our first rappel of the day. It was a long one. Maybe 100 feet or a little more, but it was a good introduction to rope since feet could be placed against the rock face the whole way down.

Went out shooting this afternoon with my girls father, her brother, and a friend of mine.

Girls dad bought her brother (12) a Henry .22 for Christmas. the whole point of this trip was to shoot that gun.

I definitely left the .22 ammo sitting in the took box. D'oh

This was her very first rappel. She really surprised me. She was a duck in water. No fear at all. She was smiling the whole way down.

Here's her second rappel. She wanted to do it again immediately. She did get a little cocky asking, "Why were you guys trying to scare me? There was nothing to it. Gravity did all the work.".

Here's a better idea of the rappel distance. You can see a few people at the base for reference.

Here we are setting up the top rope anchors at our second location. Since everyone was so comfortable, we picked a steeper rock face that required free roping without any feet planted.

Since a fall without the support of a rock face generate more force, we added extra anchors to distribute and equalize the weight.

Here's the cocky girl from before making her way to the edge. From the bottom, I asked her if she needed help.

"No. I got this.".

"I don't have this! I don't have this! Someone get me!"

She has a healthier respect of roping now.

Another nice looking spot we found. There wasn't anything down there worth posting, so this is the last picture for now.

Going out for dinner again. Later, men!

Most of the places I go don't require 4WD. Almost all of the trails I regularly explore are just like the one we all visited last Saturday. I didn't have it in 4WD that whole trip. Not even getting up that tailing pile where we all parked.

My Jeep isn't built up for rock crawling or dunes or desert racing. All I've done to it is add the ProComp tires for a little puncture resistance. Mostly, I use my Jeep to explore. Wheeling isn't the reason I get out there. It's a means to get there.

Good thing you didn't try to get up that hill closer to the road with that busted joint, huh?

Nope. Never been. Never had my Jeep on a dune. I'm sure I'd get stuck.

I keep on hearing about the dunes but I have never been, personally I don't know if my JK would be able to maintain speed out of the valley towing our 12ft enclosed trailer w/ 2 quads in it. That plus I only have one set of paddles
