So I'm trying to sell my 89 Yamaha big bear on CL. Guy shows up and after looking at it for a bit he goes " I think I'm gonna have to pass, its a little beat up I mean its ONLY 23 years old" like ****ing really old man. I wish I had my 98 Honda fortrax here to show him what beat up looks like lol

And this thing is clean for a 2000 let alone a 89

I think selling atv's is the worst. I have bought and sold my share. The last was my sons 2008 polaris 90 special edition. Polaris only made 100 that year and the guy tells my he can get a brand new one for my asking price. I told him go ahead and try I'm in no hurry to sell. He came back the next day wanting it. I told him the price went up 200 he paid it. Lol

Put a ladder rack on it and ride it down by Home Depot with a for sale sign. Bet it'll be gone in about 20 minutes.

I haven't heard of white smoke as a symptom for the plenum gasket failure, but I would be interested to know if it is the gasket when you find out. I may do the Hughes Engines manifold on mine in the not too distant future.

I would think that it would be as the intake would then suck it up from the valley. But I might be wrong.

Yeah but, that would make darker smoke if it is sucking oil. Plus you would notice it using oil when you check oil level.

I'm told that if you look down into the throttle body you can see a bunch of oil on the floor of the intake if your plenum gasket has blown out.

Yeah theres some but its more of a coating then a pool of oil. I need to just go and do a compression test and then if all is good ill go and change the intake.

I did do a test to see if it was leaking where you remove the tube off the air box that goes to the driver valve cover and the pcv valve and plug the holes with my fingers and if it sucks my fingers then its leaking. It didnt suck my finger though.

I do want to put in some dye in my jeeps oil and then look everywhere on and in my jeep and see it all glow lol

I swapped my 249 out for a 231 from the JY it took all of like an hour to do and I then had a good working transfer case.
I see, what about the lever to move from 2wd, to 4wd hi/lo? Is that a simple swap in as well? I watched a video and it seemed pretty straight forward, and fairly simple. I figure that if I can replace the part, causing the issue, in this case the vc, and it lasts 100k miles, I am in good shape. Besides I don't do very much off roading, yet, and I would like to use it in mud, and snow primarily.

No the lever wasnt easy as mine is still out off the jeep. The 249 shift cables were all too long or short I cant remember.

But I plan on buying some heim joints and some 3/8 all thread and make my shifter cable out of that.
