It looks like you are going pretty quick in a few parts of that vid. It looks a lot smoother in the on board camera. Pretty impressive, the more I see this stuff the more I want to try and build a long travel bug.

Khris has been an evil influence on me for a little bit now. I am pretty sure a truck is in my future, it is just a matter of when.

Honestly, these days with the prices the way they are. You're actually better off just buying something already built and ready to go. You can't build something even using just your labor and paying for parts only as cheap as you can buy... For instance, the parts alone not counting labor, you'd probably have a hard time building say this rotory powered baja...

http://www.race-dezert.com/classifie...tails&id=37059

Absolutely no way you could duplicate this 5/1600 for the price he's asking!

http://www.race-dezert.com/classifie...tails&id=36357

Or even this project, the motor beam and brakes alone are probably almost the asking price.

http://www.race-dezert.com/classifie...tails&id=36826

Or just go big and get a fully built 5 unlimited racer and probably smoke our truck for half the price!

http://www.race-dezert.com/classifie...tails&id=36343

Heck, even this one doesn't look bad...

I saw these a while back on one of the gearhead shows that I watch. I still think that they are really cool and could come in handy

NICE! I've been meaning to pick one of these up - this just sweetens the deal. I hope they are honoring this in store, 'cause I would like to pick this up for the run this weekend

thats a cool idea for sure. definitely better than the little like 6"x10" cardboard box i have in the back of my truck.

But then again, y'all modern car people probably dont have to worry as much? Do you guys carry fluids? (Honest question).

I carry a quart of ATF, pint of PS fluid, at least one quart of oil, and generally if it's more than a short day trip 6 gallons of water.

I carry a couple quarts of oil and a couple of ATF. All put in a milk crate.

milk crates are mighty handy.

Did you get the gun yet or were you just asking for the future?

Honestly I only really carry water right now. But I want to start doing some more overnight camping stuff while the wife is in Korea. When I start going out further I will take more stuff.

I like the look of that because you can keep everything in one container and throw it in the garage when you are tooling around town or going topless.

[QUOTE="Dr. Marneaus"] Do you guys carry fluids? (Honest question).[QUOTE]

I agree that the carry method is pretty cool, albeit expensive.

I really SHOULD carry fluids, but I don't right now simply because I haven't figured out a good place to store 'em. It's a good idea too though because even though the majority of the other folks on the trail with me have newer rigs, (by comparison to your rig) we still get in fixes where fluids are needed. In just the trips I've been on I have witnessed or (in one case myself experienced - oil pan) torn power steering lines, brake lines ripped apart, radiator hoses burst, transmission pans, oil pans and differentials punctured. Obviously no amount of trail repair is gonna help if you don't have access to a fluid that will suffice (urine only works in so many situations).

It's not only a good idea to carry extra fluids, but carry a shovel and heavy duty garbage bag to clean up the leaks.
