We had an awesome weekend in Mammoth. Went through Death Valley on the way there... it was a long trip so we stayed on paved roads. Hit Laurel Lakes in Mammoth (Scenic trail that goes up around 10k feet), then hit Tioga Pass in Yosemite before heading home. The kids loved the drive through 168 on the way back. Even at a low speed that road through the pass will throw you around pretty good.

He was having feed issues on the first round. He had to send the upper back to the manufacturer.

Oh, also watched a 1004' tanker loaded with iron ore head out into lake superior, from about 50' away which was a bit on the overwhelmingly large side!

some of those big ships are impressive. When we lived in VA we would watch some of the large navy ships come into Norfolk. The only other large ship that I was close to was in Savanna, GA and one was coming up the river while we where at a bar drinking on the riverwalk.

I'm a little more than mildly interested in this. Anyone know exactly what it is? What did these have as original equipment for motor/trans/TC?

Yeah, it was the first time I'd ever been that close to something that large really! We were standing on the edge of the bay entry here watching it go thru. They raised the bridge and it cruised by.

probably a 4cyl, maybe a dauntless or fireball V6. I'm not super sure. most likely a 3 speed stick.

68 was the first year of CJ5's if memory serves.

looks like a first year CJ5 with a hard top.

no idea on the axles other than its probably closed knuckles up front. drums all around. no power steering or power brakes.

right now, its just a shell, as he stated, you could put in whatever you want. hell grab a drive train out of a wrecked XJ and put all that in. modern engine vintage jeep.

454 and 5.9 cummins, right. 454 if you wanted to get rid of the fender wells, and a 5.9 if you added about a foot to the engine bay.

My Dad is originally from Hackensack, Mn and my mom has a brother in that town too along with some cousins. My parents have been retired and full time RV travelers for about the last 5 years I'm guessing now. They haven't actually owned a house since 2005 or 2006. This spring they bought a small 800 sq' cabin with lake front property up about 10 miles south of Hackensack. It's a fixer upper but pretty badass from what I saw this weekend. Basically it was an excuse to go check out their new pad, see them since it's been 6 months or so and see other family in the area.

Here's the place they bought.
