Holy cow, I must've been completely blind.. I honestly don't remember seeing anyone! Yeah, that was David's 93 YJ on 40's that was behind the 81 Blazer on 35's behind me. How far into the trail did you guys go?

We were coming down a side trail that intersected your trail at a 45 angle to the one you were on. The trail intersected about 1/2 mile from the bridge. We actually stopped and waited to see if you guys were on our trail and pulled over to let you all by. We were close enough to see details on all your jeeps. We could have shot you all without optics. We were that close!!!

That is always a great way to tell someone how close you were to them. Right up there with I could have slit your throat and drank your blood...

Yeah, I thought about that right after I sent it. It's right there with I was so close I could hear you breathing? Apologies, nothing meant by it. I'm really surprised you guys didn't even see us!

No worries bro, I know you are just speaking in "powr" so I wasn't concerned at all.

I am sure you guys were noticed by the other guys.. I was spending a LOT of time watching the Blazer in my rearview to make sure he was doing ok so I wasnt really paying attention to anything other than what was directly in front of me and behind me; it was his first run after swapping in the LS1 and he was dropping behind. Turns out he was just taking it slow and easy on that leaf spring suspension. On the way out we totally bombed down the trail though, it was awesome!

Neither is more accurate than the other, I don't even see how anybody could make that distinction.

Decide what you want and go off of that. Don't let anybody sway your decision one way or the other otherwise you will wind up hating the rifle you have. If you want the Mini, get the Mini. If you want an AR, get an AR. Me personally, I want both.

The parts are a bit more expensive, but usually higher quality(exceptions always occur) the mini will supposedly last longer due to the piston bolt keeping it cooler, so after tens o thousands of rounds, it will have less wear. It will be a little heavier, and a little more difficult to find "video game" accessories for.
The AR is the Chevy! Produced by the millions with most parts interchangeable from one to another. Many low quality, poorly designed crap available at cheap prices. It will run hotter on the bolt and require more frequent deep cleaning. The cleaning procedure will also take more time to complete(unless you are military and have been trained repetitively) you can find just about any kind of toy to put on an AR with very little searching.
I have 2 ARs. Haven't even fired one of them yet, but I enjoy the hell out of the other one. It's all "video gamed out" with a red dot sight, fore grip, and light attachment. Am i EVER gaining to use the lights and crap? Hell no, but it looks cool and it's fun to shoot. My dad has a mini 14. I love shooting it too, but it's more difficult to find "video game" crap for as said above. It really is preference on which gun feels an looks better to you! Sturgio has a mini, and I'm sure if we all got together, you could do a side by side comparison.

Ok, I brought up & welcomed opinions on guns and only two responses so far? Am I going to have to start checking pulses?

On the same note, is the Mini 14 I linked a good deal? http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=218...er%20mini%2014

If you look around, you can sometimes find them for five and a half. That scope is a 150-250ish scope. It's a good optic, but I don't see that package worth 850, unless its stainless. Could just be me, but I'd look for a new one at that price or a used one for around 5-600. Gun shows are good for that. What distance are you wanting to shoot at? That Nikon BDC scope will get you to around 3-400 yds reliably, 5-600 yds with some guessing and practice. Your best results will be seen around 1-250 though. I've got a Nikon BDC on two of my rifles and am happy with them.

I have never shot with anything but iron sights and I am a horrible judge of distance so I have no idea how far I can shoot accurately or how far I want to shoot. I imagine a scope would change a lot for me; regardless of quality.

Once again... THE ONLY REASON I HAVE A HOME COMPUTER IS CAUSE IT WAS FREE. Find me a FREE smart phone with NO ADDED COST TO MY MONTHLY bill and I'd upgrade. Till then, I won't spend a penny on one. You're all probably the people that sit at the table when you go out to dinner and text each other...

I won't flinch at buying thousand dollar shocks but a smart phone is so incredibly useless to me and my lifestyle that you won't catch me wasting my money on one...

I spent 10 hours out there yesterday and 5 this morning... I think I filled my weekend quota.

I think you would do just fine with a mini and a scope. You shoul e able to consistently hit out to 200 yds, which is not bad at all. I would recommend searching for a while and get a decent mid line price range. Hit up some gun shows and pick one up for at or under that mid line price and put a scope on it. I have a laser bore sighter and we can get you dialed in pretty close with less than a magazine of ammo.

A quality scope will always outdo a crap scope. Crap scopes don't hold zero for ****. I'll take a mid-range rifle with a good scope over a high end rifle with a crap scope any day. Good optics and good fundamentals are where shots are made.

I agree with Powr on the price of that Mini-14.

I have a smart phone and when I was over at your house, you texted more than I did. I used to text and crap all the time when I was in Germany then a friend of mine told me that I had to leave my phone on the counter and if I touched it, I was leaving. Since then, I seldom use my phone unless I have absolutely nothing else going on.

Going out to dinner? What is that? You do remember that I have 2 toddlers. When we do go out to dinner it is normally a buffet without a long wait so we do not have to keep the kids occupied too much. If anything the kids are the ones on the phone because I have netflix and several movies saved for them.

I use the gps on my phone all the time. I also use it as my mp3 player at the gym and when I go for bike rides. Trust me, it took me a long time to get a smart phone too. It took a buy one for 50% off get one free deal for me to finally get one. The first week that we had them we saved $650 on our bedroom set because they price matched... I have saved money and time several occasions with my phone. Not only that but I use USAA and since they do not have branches outside of San Antonio, I have to use my phone to deposit my checks and everything else. We are grandfathered in with an unlimited plan, so we are lucky for now.

My two most used apps are weatherunderground and craigslist notification. I am continuously running searches for certain stuff that check every 5 minutes, so hopefully I can be the first person to contact the seller. But honestly I only got the phone for looking at porn.

In the garage I do text a ton cause I can reply in between cuts, welds, etc on my own time. I don't have to drop everything to answer and talk. Most people have figured out that it's rare that I even answer the phone these days cause most of my wake hours are either on the clock at work or in the garage working so text is the way to go right now cause I can reply when my hands aren't full. But like I said, I still don't see a need for a smart phone, my flip does texting just fine.

Well crap, sign me up!!!

I own a GPS and a MP3 player, they both work, ain't broke, don't fix it... Still can't justify the added cost. On larger purchases I typically do my research ahead of time and then go do my shopping rather then on the floor in front of the product. And there's nothing I can think of that I must scan craigslist daily for to make sure I don't miss out on a deal. LOL Only craigslist purchase I can think of is my 2nd exploder purchase late winter early spring. But I highly doubt those are in such high demand that I need a phone to scan every 5 minutes for me. LOL
