April trip to northern Nevada-looking for suggestions

Hello, I'm from western Washington. My best friend's 12 old son has hardly traveled out of state and my buddy asked if I would take them Jeeping in Nevada during spring break for a change of scenery. I have some experience in Northern Nevada, dirt biking a couple of times in the black rock desert. And several dual sport adventures out of reno when I was much younger. My jeep is moderately built, running on 32's with 4:88 gearing, trutracs, and cromo shafts. I have recovery gear. Since we are going solo, I am looking for scenic to moderate 4x4 trails, ghost towns, old mines and any such destinations. Oh yeah, I know about Bog hot spring, but are there other more remote springs? Also, am I correcting in thinking night time temps near freezing and maybe 60 during the day in April? I understand solo travel in the desert has risk, and we are taking reasonable steps with survival gear etc. Any tips on that topic are welcome as well. Thanks for any help you can give.

Well, if you know where Bog is, just a few miles west is Duferrena Ponds, a no service campground that has a warm pond for swimming and some other ponds for fishing. Check out the opel mines, pay a fee to dig around and keep what you find. From the same area you can get on a graded road that goes through Via and Red Rock Canyon, around the west side of the Black Rock, I have never been that way though. You are correct about the climate for that time of year. There is another hot spring down the Knott Creek road, near the junction to Onion Reservoir. Unfortunately, Onion, Blue Lake and Knott Creek Reservoir don't open for fishing till second saturday of June, mainly to keep people off the trails while its muddy up there.
