WARNING, stay out of the Lawrence Welk area, they're now impounding vehicles!

WARNING about wheeling the Lawrence Welk area I just heard tonight from a fellow wheeler in my club who runs a tow truck business in Escondido... do NOT wheel in the Lawrence Welk area from now on!!!!! They are now enforcing the anti-offroading ordinances and have IMPOUNDED 8 vehicles in the last few days they caught out there.

Astrea helicopters now patrol the area and when they spot anyone wheeling, they radio the local police who meet the wheelers as they exit at the two known exit points from the area. The Sheriff is involved too so unless you want your rig impounded, stay out of there. This is no rumor, his tow truck company has been the one they've been calling to tow and impound the vehicles.

When you have a choice, buy American made.

I know this is from april but...

When this was posted, im 90 percent sure it was still legal to wheel there. Fire dept, and Police dept had no problems, * and said just stay off peoples properties. The whole land is now owned by someone and they are building a whole housing community so this time, its closed for good, so do not go up there cause this time it really is legal.

*cops actualy pulled over my friend one time as he was leaving, asked to check their jeeps, they agreed. Cops looked and then asked, "so you guys were fourwheeling" they said yes, cops said "well just dont be shooting, drinking, blowing up cars, or goin into peoples property, and have fun"

Lawrence Welk Update:

The area in question is owned by Stonegate Merriam LLC, a real estate developer. They bought the land in 2007 from Hanson Aggregate and are planning a 2700 home housing development, Merriam Mountains: http://www.merriammountains.com/

Jason (Jeebs) has contacted the SD County Sheriff Department and the Deputy who patrols that area will be in contact with Jason, hopefully this afternoon, and will give us a definitive answer on using the area for whellin.
