Alright, you guilted me into at least trying for my Ham license. I got a book from amazon http://www.amazon.com/Ham-Radio-License-Manual-Arrl/dp/0872590976/ref=pd_sim_b_1 and I will at least try to get it taken care of before June. What do decent hand held ham radios go for these days? Is there any way that I can use it as an internet link?? Just dreaming I guess....

If that's the case, I'd suggest you go from west to east so when you're done you're back in Tahoe.

Here are some links for you. First 2 are places to practice taking the test. They score it for you so you can see what % you are at. Also, the questions are worded exactly the same on the real test but, the answers may switch around from A, B, C, or D. All questions are multiple choice. 3rd is for a good radio.

Practice Test 1

Practice test 2

Ham Radio

broken record... would'nt do it alone! yes, it is epic! awesome trip that I'd love to do myself. but you're crazy to go alone. do you not have even one wheel'n buddy or friend that would go with you>? at least you've got some time to work on it... hopefully you can find someone.
