Any of you experienced welders have advice for what to use for a starter welder that could be used to build some rockers and flat flares?

A friend who welds said to buy or find lots of scrap to practice with and to get a ARC welder, but he didn't say if 70amp or more.

Looking for some input. He also said for personal projects he uses a cheap arc from harbor freight and well cheap is good but not sure if the 70amp arc is what id need.

/End Transmission

I have a hobart 140A MIG welder that kicks *** up to 1/4, but still have a desire to get a nice 220V welder one day.

northerntool.com has them for inexpensive price and usually have them on sale.
