"For those of you interested in/or going to the February 15-17, 2013 Goler Gulch/Wash trip to the Edith E. Cabin, there will be no shooting in the canyon this trip for various reasons. You may have noticed my posts regarding a future clean up and repairs to this cabin and location. I have been emailing back and forth and on the phone with BLM and obtaining information from High Desert Multiple Use Coalition, Inc. There is a current study being conducted regarding the use of the area, the impact of visitors, vandalism/mistreatment of dwellings and the possible future closure(s) of up to 80-85% (estimated) closures of the currently open trails and roads. I have undertaken with the help of several others, the efforts of protecting this cabin in particular. However, with the laws regarding shooting in this canyon allowing ONLY hunting in designated areas during certain seasons, the BLM's watchful eyes via air and my intentions for this location, I must ask that there be no shooting on this trip. It not only breaks the law but potentially impedes my efforts regarding this location.

Thanks!"
Send me pm with a link with more BLM info about shooting in this area as this is of interest to my group too thanks I am currently waiting for a response email from BLM and will share the information I find with this group also

I think I seen a sign out there that said no target shooting? Could've been a different area though? I was out there on Saturday, and then on another trail in a different area on Sunday.

VINCH~ I will share what I find as I find it. I am unsure of precisely what arears are/are not permitted legally for target practice. It has been some time for me, but, a few years ago an actual Ranger told me it was illegal in the area we were in at that time, though I have been ALL OVER the entire El Paso Range for so long, I don't recall just what canyon, mesa or flat we were in. If you find out legalities regarding target shooting in the area, please DO share! I will do the same.

I have seen that in the past (common knowledge)
I just want more specifics for that particular location.
My group spends much time shooting at this particular location
and unless told otherwise by the BLM they will be there the week of Feb 11-18
When and if I receive a reply from BLM I will post it here

Argh! Been parusing the BLM Geo site i sear h of info, what a pain in the arse!

VINCH~as for shooting, it is precisely as that webli k and i fo describes. But, to answer tour auestion or comment...totally legal anywhere on public land under BLM. Again, those described rules apply. If I can find a direct li k that describes this situation specifically, I will share.

Holy crap! My phone and fingers dont mix! Mass typos!

Anyway, Vinch, it is perfectly legal to shoot in this area, and ALL of the BLM land so long as the weapons are legal and registered. I of course am not the "gun police". And I could give a rats *** just what people shoot so long as respect is followed. What I mentioned earlier was more not regarding legalities of shooting in the area. But, rather the "illegalities" with which so many do-i.e. shooting over a trail, shooting at a cabin or landmark, destruction, vandalism like shooting, etc
