Red Rock area, Ca. 2013

February 15-17, 2013 Goler, Red Rock, Benson Cyn, Iron Cyn, Garlock, Randsburg & more
Just beginning to plan for next year's annual trip to this area. For some of you, it may be boring. For others, especially if their first time, it can be very rewarding. For me, it's often sad because so much of the history in this area is falling wayside to vandals and disrespectful riders and travelers who have little, if any, respect for our public lands. In any case, I have made it to this area every year in February (which began accidentally) since 1998.

So, here I go again, lol. It's open to anyone who would like to come along. Over the years, our group has had some great folks show up from as close to me as The Antelope Valley and as far away as Vegas and one person several years ago from Utah!

Again, I know for some people the area may be "old hat" but for me it has become tradition. It is essentially my back yard and I can get to numerous "get aways" within an hour or so from my home and dissapear from the daily grind as it were, often never seeing pavement for 3-4 days and nights. Sometimes there lots of wheelin' and sometimes there's just "chillin" at camp to simply unwind and recharge. There's a little of everything (accept trees and streams lol) for whatever kind of wheeling you like, and of course that whole "chillin" thing at an old cabin around the fire with a little something on the grill and a cold one in your hand, pondering what you will do or which direction in this vast desert you may head out to explore after breakfast the next morning. On these trips, I plan very little with the exception of the items I will need for the trip. That is, I seldom know what trail I want to follow or which direction I want to head until I am there. For me, it has become more about the adventure and exploring then the wheeling. But, again, there's something for everyone in this area.

Anyway...I will post up a map of the area with directions and locations, etc. later today.

This isn't a JEEP only trip. Again, all are welcome to join.

P.S. I will be running the 11 meter (CB) and will be on channel 12 and 18, although primarily 18. Just some FYI.

Thanks for reading!

Map of the area indicating where I will set up camp

goler-area-map.gif

Here ya go...hope this helps.

From Hwy 14, take Redrock-Randsburg Road east approximately 11.25 miles (the sign on HWY 14 suggests 13 miles or so and online the maps appear mor like 11 miles or so, therefore these numbers are approximate) having merged left onto Garlock Road, then look for the "HI N LO" sign on your left along Garlock Road. From Hwy 395, take Garlock Road West approximately 2.5 miles, looking for the "HI N LO" sign on your right. The Edith E. Cabin (our campsite) is approximately 1 mile or so from Garlock Road up "Charly Rd". Hope this helps out folks.

...and a Google Earth Screenshot for possible assistance...

Hey Jeff! My father and I just finished a '90 2.5 Wrangler for him. It's a great little rig so far. 3" lift and 31" tires on D windows. Anyway, welcome! It would be a great area for you and your Jeep to really get intimate with one another!

Where in the area do you live? I have a few things to get in order on my Cherokee, but often (until recently) randomly take off to El Mirage Lake and all sorts of day trip type stuff on the weekends. You're welcome to join one of these days!

Anyway, hope to see some old friends and make new ones in February!

Yj mojavedave

My 88 is stock except for having 31's and a lift is in the future but first I have to replace all of my u-joints, got one on the front alxe that clunks and one on the rear driveshaft that does the same thing.

I did a run with a club member thru Last Chance Canyon and Nightmare Gultch, now that was a blast. Hell I even did the V notch! Now I will admit that I got hung up on a rock right at the very end of it and got a tug all of 2 feet to get me off of the rock but I did it!

I live here in Ridgecrest in the Eastridge Estates part of town so if you ever get up this way let me know.

I hope to see you for your run Dave.

When I went, everyone was dragging across that rock at the end of the notch.

Dragging is one thing but my shock mount got hung up and that was all it took. I had a great day in spite of that.

Now I have to get all of my u-joints replaced, got a couple that clunk, but hey what can you expect for a 24 YO Jeep!

Lift

Hey, Jeff in RC

I happen to have some 3-3.5" lift leaf springs. I have listed them on craigslist a couple times but everyone wants something for nothing (not to mention just how weird cragslisters can be)..anyway, I will be happy to make an extremely good deal for someone who will truly appreciate them. Let me know if you're interested.

Either way, hope you make the trip. The more, the better.

February? Any things possible, just have to see how work goes. I'll be at Calico for Thanksgiving, and I'm hoping to put a trip together to Panamint Valley between Christmas and New Years.
