You've got Hungry Valley in Gorman, You got the Mojave Desert out your window (tease), Death Valley, Trails around Tehachapi, mountains east of Bakersfield, Barstow, Victorville and Apple Valley.

In Palmdale you are surrounded by wheeling locations. Go North on 14 or 395, west side of the highway is Mountains, including the highest in lower 48, east side Desert including lowest point in US. These two places are practically within sight of each other.

What about El Mirage and the surrounding location? If you're willing to do some camping or long day Lone Pine and the Inyo Mtns aren't too far away. Same with ridgecrest, Jawbone Canyon, Redrock Canyon, Opal Canyon(burro schmidt tunnel area). Visit a local blm ranger station and start looking at maps. there is a lot out your way.
