Operation Desert Fun in Oct, a FUN 4x4 event to raise $$$ for disabled vets!

My club, Geared4Fun in North County San Diego, hosts a big 4x4 event each year out at Ocotillo Wells in October. This year, it takes place October 17, 18, and 19 with full details available on Calif. Assoc. of 4WD Clubs at http://www.cal4wheel.com/index.php?o...=71&Itemid=102 and at the top of that page is an on-line link you can use to register for the event and order t-shirts, sweatshirts, etc..

Guys, this is for our disabled US military veterans, proceeds from this event go straight to them via the Cal-Diego Paralyzed Veterans Association. You'll see disabled vets in attendance, they appreciate what we're doing for them... almost as much as we appreciate what they did for us.

Basically there are runs for all skill levels, including for kids on motorcycles and quads, with most of the runs starting early Saturday morning with one Poker Run Friday night. There's also a big raffle drawing Saturday night with a TON of good stuff donated by manufacturers, dealers, and individuals. Bring your RC trucks with you too if you have them, there will be a competition for them as well on Saturday. And if you like being in drag, there's even an event for you... the Powder Puff Run is for women or men who dress like women! It does get very cold out there at night so bring your extra warm sleeping bag and jacket.

We also know that with the cost of gas being so high that not all who would like to go can afford the gas. So if you can't make it for that or any other reason, please register online anyway as this IS a fundraiser and our disabled veterans can use the $$$ you include with your registration even if you can't make it.

No drinking on the trail will be tolerated so please keep your booze and/or beer back at camp.

Thanks guys, your enthusiastic support of our disabled military veterans by supporting this event will be appreciated VERY much!!

Jerry

I saw you all out there last year having fun. I was there camping with my family riding quads, and watching the Jeeps down in Mud Rut. They were having a great time.
Now I have a Jeep, and I will do my best to have mine ready in time.

Great cause!

Should be stopping by on Saturday sometime. Hope to see you there.
(And to be honest, I'm still not convinced on the whole eye patch thing. I gotta see for myself.)

Just saw this thread... Wife and I are going to be out that way this weekend riding our dirtbikes... Sorry our Jeepster is home in Arizona...
but look for two riders on two KTM 525 EXCs... we will try to drop by... sounds like a good excuse to take a break from riding...

Where is it exactly in the SRVA?

Pre-registration is now closed.
You can still register on-site, so we'll see you there!

I was going to register just for the donation and t-shirt, but I can't make the event.
Do you have any pull with the organizers so I can register via CC or PayPal to donate (and get the t-shirt)? It is definately a good cause. I will do my best to make it out next year.

I'm trying to talk the female unit into driving out Sunday morning early, but so far, no luck. Too many other obligations on Saturday.
If I do make it, I'll be driving the Avalanche 'cuz my YJ is still up on jack stands.

Lemme' know if this is possible.

You can register online via a credit card via the link I gave above, not sure how to get you your stuff though. Perhaps you can add a note to have it mailed to you. I'll ask the main lady in charge to see what's up with that.

I tried that. The site has this message;

How much was the registration?
I could paypal it to you and you could register at the event for me if that work's for you, or can you provide me an email or phone number for the person in charge of registration?

Sorry I forgot to do this sooner.

The turnout was much smaller this year than in any previous year, likely due to the economy... gas prices and job situations. However, it was still fun with bright clear HOT days and a fun raffle at night. I didn't break anything on my Jeep, not that I did anything all that extra-challenging, so that was good. The disabled veterans that were there appreciated the funds we raised for them, that is for sure.
