Open Shooting Area in SoCal??

I moved to San Diego a while back from Arizona. Now in AZ you can pretty much shoot anywhere outside of city limits. Is there anywhere like that here on SoCal? BLM land? I hope I'm not limited to indoor ranges....

Thanks for that. I found this too. It is on the BLM website.

"Target Shooting is allowed on public lands. However, you must provide your own targets and remove your debris when you leave your site. It is illegal to shoot at trees, signs, outbuildings, or other objects on federal lands that are for the public's enjoyment."

Two places I go, Jacumba just off I-8, south side, then a little further east in the desert, off the S-2 approximately six miles N/W of the I-8, on the south side.

I'd check with your local BLM office first. Many of the BLM areas marked on the SoCal maps specifically say "shotgun only".

So I'm assuming Anza Borrego isn't considered BLM land. I cannot seem to find it on the BLM maps. Is it state or federal property?

The area off of the S2 that I go is BLM land. Its the only area in Borrego that I know of, there may be others, where you can shoot. Jacumba you can shoot at paper, steel and clay's.

You don't have to go that far. Take the Jacumba exit drive south to Old 80 and go East a couple of miles. Big mountain/hill to the south called Airport Mesa. It is BLM land and a very popular shooting spot, the mountain makes a great backstop. It does get rather trashy, so please take a little extra with you when you go.
