Yj Monache Meadows in the Kern Plateau

Went to to Kennedy Meadows in the Kern Plateau back on the 24th and I thought I would post up a few pics. I took a buddy and his 4yo son and had a blast. AJ was a great kid and loved being in the back of my Jeep and never once complained, about anything!

Enjoy!

My father and grandfather used to hunt back in there. Been talking about taking my father out to visit the area and do a weekend trip out of it. Thanks for the pics!

It is in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of Southern California, off of hwy 395 just north of the Ridgecrest/China Lake area.
It is north of where hwy 395 and hwy 14 split and you can get to it from 9 Mile Canyon Road.

So where are you at Gofish? Are you close?

Looks like we might be talking about the same area and yes you can get to it from the lake area and from above Kernville.
Check this out and see what works for you and yes, it will be a LONG drive just to get there. BTW there is NO gas up there.
Look for Johnsondale and you will be close to the Sherman Pass Road which takes you up the mountain.
Off of hwy 198 east of town.
Off of hwy 190 in Porterville.
Off of hwy J22 in Ducor.

Any way you would go I would suggest carrying extra fuel just to play it safe.

Yeah, I believe the best way to get there is to go thru kern canyon and up thru lake Isabella area. The other directions are all up the mountains and yeah no gas stations. I would like to plan a trip over there but I would like to get a few jeeps to caravan from my area.

That way will work as there is gas in Kernville before you head up the canyon. I don't blame you for wanting a few others to go with you, there is always help and safety in numbers.
I will let you know when I plan on going again and maybe you can get a few others to tag along. I hope you can make it, it's a fun ride.

Sounds really good. Is there places to camp? Approx, how far is it from kernville? I'm still pretty new to jeepin. Is a 4" lift with 33's more then enough?

Yj

Lots of places to camp up there so no worries. I am guessing that it will take you at least an hour, maybe more, to get from Kernville to the Blackrock Ranger Station, and about 5-10 minutes to get to the trail head from there. It has been a long time since I've been on that side of the mountain, sorry I don't have a better time estimate.

My Jeep is stock with 31's and I do just fine, there is nothing on the road to the meadows that is that hard and I only had to use 4WD once or twice that day. There are a LOT of side roads up there to explore so plan on an entire day to see it all, they all are dead ends as the meadows are surronded by wilderness and the main road is the only way in or out.

Hey, I'm new to Jeepin myself so no worries, it's all about having fun isn't it!
Hope to see you up there, you'll have a good time.

Hey if you guys plan a trip I'd like to go also. Would like to make it a 2 day trip though and bring either my little camper, or my toy hauler. So let me know if you plan a run.
