Lopez Lake to Pozo 1/16/10
Sorry about the short notice. Going to SLO for the weekend and wanted to do the High Mountain Lookout Road from Lopez Lake up to Pozo, CA. Anybody interested should post here or PM me.
I'm probably going to be at the Ranger Station on the south end of Hi Mountain Lookout Road between 8 and 10 tomorrow morning. If there's iinterest, then I'll set an exact time and meeting place.

Wish I would have seen this earlier! Hi-Mountain road is closed at the moment. If you happen to hit it when it's open, you can take Garcia Ridge trail about halfway through.
If Hi-Mountain is closed, and you're looking for something else to do, hit me up 805-550-0392 and I'll show you Cuesta Ridge.

ended up the pass was closed. i wonder how you find that out ahead of time.
so we went out upper lopez ridge road. there are a couple of sections on the side of the road. also we took the road to the last gate and went to big falls for a picnic. lots of little river crossings and a little mud.
wish we could have done the original planned route but we still had fun.

Big Falls is a great little "trail" after it rains. I say trail because there are 13 river crossings, and last time i went (while it was raining) all the crossings were 2'+ deep.

The Cuesta Ridge "trail" is also known as TV Tower Road. The turn off is at the summit of the Cuesta Grade, on the west side of the freeway, and on the San Luis side of the hill. If you take 101 North, as you start to come toward the top of the Cuesta Grade, be in the far left lane. You'll have a turn lane. Make that left, and just keep heading uphill. At one time it was a paved road....still is I guess...There are a ton of trails that split off that main "road", all of which connect back up. I'd be more then happy to show them to you.

that looks like a lot of fun. I'll have to hit you up next time I'm down there. Are there any gates up there? I don't like gates. Overall, we had fun on Saturday, took some pictures and some short videos of the small offroad sections and river crossings. Nothing too hairy. We ended up taking Route 198 and Route 25 back from SLO going north. There look to be some interesting places to wheel around there too.
