Question looking for open trails around hwy 4 or 88

a group of us have been trying to find some good snow trails up hwy 4 and 88 for the past few weekends we have been running around sourgrass but we are not sure how much further it goes so I was wondering if anyone knows of anything in the area that is open to the public and not covered with 6-8 feet of snow.

Deer Valley and Slick Rock are a few in that area that are real fun to wheel. Both are closed right now though.

1985 cj 7. 360 V8, 35X12.50 BFG's sitting on Crager 15X8 rims, summer brothers axle rear, Yukon axles up front, lock rite lockers front and rear, 5" of lift, body armor, six point roll cage, 8000lb warn winch, 4.56 yukon gears front and rear, t-18, dana 300. And much more on the way.

There is a great book called "High Sierra SUV Trails" i think Vol 2 is the western slope, it has great writeups of all of the trails around 4 and 88 as well as many others.

Within the past couple of months we've been all over Cabbage Patch, Black Springs and Boards Crossing. A couple months ago it was pretty brutal

Here's a map: http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/stanislaus/c...winter-map.pdf

None of those are maintained roads obviously and you're driving on several feet of snow, it's probably less by now though.

Here's some pics too if you're interested:

you say you where around boards crossing within the last couple of months? we passed a group coming out when we were on our way in all newer vehicles I think one was red could this have been you? our group had an 86 cj soa on 35s then my 94 wrangler, 90s toyota and bringing up the rear we had an expedition o 35s, we went back this weekend and all the snow was gone after the main gate, we made it all the way to the meadow had a day camp then followed the creek up a bit furthure until we got blocked by a fallen tree. pretty area a nice wheeling it had a little bit for every vehicle we brought. I will check out the winter map thanks.

Ya we were up there 2/16 and 3/15, I don't recall seeing an expedition on 35's but anything is possible. We were just a bunch of Jeeps... and a couple of Cherokees
