Knoxville Cleanup Day, Nor Cal

Hey guys,

With every trail in the US facing closure to our sport, we have yet another chance to stand up and take responsibility.

Deputy Mark Warrington of the Napa County Sheriff’s Department has released this years date for the annual Knoxville OHV Clean-Up.

The clean-up will be taking place May 4th, 2008. Deputy Warrington has asked all participants to arrive at The Hunter Creek Campground at 8:00 AM (Directions below).

Please bring any cleaning supplies you can. This would include as many large trash bags as possible, rakes, shovels, gloves, trailers, etc.

A kick-*** BBQ lunch is provided FREE OF CHARGE. So RSVP with Deputy Warrington at mwarrington@co.napa.ca.us

Knoxville OHV is one of the last public trail and shooting areas in Northern California.

At roughly 30,000 acres, Knoxville is home to an assortment of easy to medium trails, several types of wild game, camping, and rifle and pistol shooting ranges.

Knoxville OHV is located about an hour Northeast of the City of Napa. It’s a beautiful drive that runs across Lake Berryessa.

DIRECTIONS:
FROM NAPA, TAKE HIGHWAY 121 (MONTICELLO ROAD) TO HIGHWAY 128 ( MOSKOWITE CORNERS) , TURNING LEFT ON TO CAPELL VALLEY ROAD. CONTINUE TO “TURTLE ROCK BAR” AND TURN RIGHT ON KNOXVILLE BERRYESSA ROAD TOWARDS SPANISH FLAT RESORT. CONTINUE ON KNOXVILLE BERRYESSA ROAD FOR ABOUT 25 MILES CROSSING ABOUT 8 LOW WATER CROSSINGS, TO MILE POST MARKER 32.00. TURN LEFT ON THE GRAVEL ROAD (DEVIL’S HEAD ROAD) AND MEET AT THE INFORMATION CENTER ABOUT 1/2 MILE UP THE ROAD.

Remember, if you’re interested in going, shoot Deputy Warrington an e-mail at mwarrington@co.napa.ca.us, or PM me for more details.

More info:

http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/fo/ukiah/knoxville.html

More directions:

Directions: From the town of Lower Lake go east on Morgan Valley Road 13 miles to the north entrance to Knoxville at Dunnigan Hill Road (this access not recommended for two-wheel drive vehicles beyond Round Mountain Road). Continue three miles further on Morgan Valley Road for the south entrance to Knoxville at the intersection with Devilhead Road (southeast of the McLaughlin Mine crushing plant). There are BLM signs at both entrances.

OR - From Napa, take the Lake Berryessa Road (hugs the west side of the lake). After crossing Putah Creek, it is approximately 17 miles to the Devilhead Road entrance, and 20 miles to the Dunnigan Hill Road entrance.

OR - From St. Helena, take Pope Valley Road to Pope Creek Road. Take a left at the Lake Berryessa-Knoxville Road. It is approximately 17 miles to the Devilhead Road entrance, and 20 miles to the Dunnigan Hill Road entrance.

CAUTION: There are 4-5 lower water crossings located on the Lake Berryessa-Knoxville Road north of Lake Berryessa that may restrict access to the Knoxville entrances from the south.

This is also posted in Envirobeat.

I was thinking about camping up there the night before, or I can always meet people in the morning in town.

Let me know.

Nope. I would plan to email him a week out to be courteous. The only reason he wants an RSVP is because he wants to know how much food to buy.

Thought about it, but I'm positive that I want to leave the day before so we can camp. That way nobody has to get up super early to head up in the morning.

I'd be happy to write out some very detailed directions with pictures and stuff.
