I'm not sure how the CHP chains requirement comes into play with 4wd vehicles. But, can't hurt to have them along.
I read somewhere years ago about renting them but I can't find it right now.

I'm picking up some RUD GRIP 4X4's....the company has a location in Laguna Niguel...hoping to have them just ship them down this week...they aren't THAT much more than all the others and I did my research and EVERYONE recommends these things...I tihnk 2 pairs is $98 each - so ~$200 for 4 tires... Kind of expensive but probably worth it in the end for offroading and such. I have an email in to them, so hopefully I will hear back tomorrow.

I wasn't planning on using the chains on the trails really. It was more for getting up to the lake and back. CHP are nazis when it comes to chain controls in the most minor snows.

The owner of the store emailed me back already and said if I ordered them online today he would get them in the mail tomorrow and they will be here by Tuesday...so I went ahead and pulled the trigger. Shipping was only ~$16 - which is less then the cost of the gas I would use to go pick them up in Laguna Niguel...and saves me the hassle and time. Tax was about $14 I think - and the base cost was $196.00 - so $226.91 was my total. A bit more than the cheapy ones, but now I know I have the best out there for not too much more... (ok not the best - the serious best are over a grand...hehe). Another reason I like these is that you can put them on while your Jeep is stationary...you don't have to roll into them...and you don't need to adjust them after a quarter mile - though it is prudent to check. They only take about a minute to put each of them on...and they have the good diamond pattern for the side to side traction. Now I sound like a commercial.
Not that we get to do a lot of mudding around here, but it's good to have a set like this for serious mud runs as well. Here is a link to where I bought them in case anyone else is interested.

My plan is to leave work about noon and try to be on the road by about 2. I have no idea what would be a good meeting place along the way but I like the idea if the timing works out.
We all need to swap phone numbers too. pm them to me, if you like and I'll make a list.
include your screen name, real name and cell #.

Well, my GF suddenly has to work late Friday, so we will have to drive up Saturday morning. We'll be seeing you guys at 9am at the Discovery Center.

As tempting as that is, I better not.
If you have a list of everyones cell numbers please PM it to me. If we get there early, maybe we can meet for breakfast.
