Anza Borrego Trails and Camping Trip

Its time for another Anza Borrego camping trip! Come on out and run The Squeeze, Heart Attack Hill, Diablo Dropff and other cool desert trails. We will be camping at Blair Valley and it is dry camping.

WHEN: Friday, March 20th through Sunday, March 22nd.
WHERE: Little Blair Valley, Anza Borrego
WHAT: Offroading...duh, Beer, Food
MISC: CB Channel 24. There will also be a meeting point, most likely Ramona, on Friday afternoon for those who want to caravan out.

The Squeeze

Sandstone Canyon

Pinyon Mountain Trail Map

UPDATED INFO!!!

We will be meeting at the trail head for Pinyon Mountain at 9:00AM. This is where we will air down and get ready to go. For those making it for the day only there is plenty of room to park tow rigs at the trail head. We will be hitting the trail at 10:00AM.

Due to the varying tastes in beer, the lack of confirmed people and the fact that there will be people under 21 camping, this is now a BYOB trip. The keg has been canceled. I don't feel like being liable for someone under 21 being caught drinking and my name on the keg.

The meet time in Ramona on Friday the 20th is still TBD. Stay tuned!

Here is where we will be camping:

Here is the trail head for Pinyon Mountain. It is marked by this sign:

I've put together a list of those going for sure and those who are on the fence. If I have you on the wrong list, by all means chime in!

Couple weeks ago park was enforcing the oneway route. The most abused is Diablo drop-off. 2 rangers were parked where you could not see them coming up and were citing wheelers coming up.

I didnt talk to the rangers but did see them, one wheeler said his buddy got cited. I would call and find out if its ok going up.

I'd like to make it to this place someday. I lived within 2 hours of it up until two months ago, but now it's more like 10 hours away! I've read that springtime is the best.

Seems kind of extreme to post 2 rangers at the top of that sucker for any extended period of time. Last time I was up there I didn't even see a sign showing that it was one way. Only looking at maps online have I seen the one way stuff.

Either way I'll definitely check it out. Thanks for the heads up!

What would be the challenge in going down Diablo Dropoff, unless it's pouring rain, and your brakes fail?

Seem's silly to enforce that.

Theres actually a sign after you come through the small creek , its on the lower flat area before the little drop offs ( not the sand hill). The sign is next to the larger rutted drop (to the left looking up). Not sure if it telling that its not legal to go up or to stay off the other abused areas....

That was Daniel's from a let's get lost in the desert run a couple of months ago.

The ruts aren't bad at all, looks worse than it is, near stock Jeeps run it all the time. The real problem is soft sand.

That sign is the one at the top of the first little climb Vern was talking about. It was the subject of much discussion. It blocks an old route to the top, the more used one is to the left and there is another fairly well used one to the right, the feeling was that it blocks the center trail, my feeling is that the right trail isn't the proper one either.

On the other side, at the bottom of the sand climb to the top of the dropoff is another sign like that one.

So with the state in a fiscal wreck they're going to raise money by sitting out in the middle of the desert........

stoopid
