Oregon emission laws

I was wondering what exactly the emission laws are in Oregon? Is it just mostly a sniff test and visual to make sure the emission equipment is in place? Would it be ok if i swapped a v-8 so to say in but meet the standards?

I think that as long as you are not pumping out some thick exhaust you would be fine.

The only test areas are Portland and Jackson County. When I did my conversion the only requirement was to go with a later year model engine and control system. I got the VECI decal off the vehicle I took the engine out of so it showed its emission info and DMV had no problems with passing me.

I don't think that is true. Multnomah, Clackamas, parts of Marion and Washington County have to go through DEQ. It all depends on where you live. I would just go down to the DMV and ask

i know here in Medford (in Jackson County) we have to go through DEQ, but thankfully I'm not in city limits. Especially being as how my Jeep no longer has a cat converter on it, lol
