memorial day weekend 2012

I am hoping to go for a day trip somewhere that weekend. Anyone else looking to do the same?

I was hoping there was a group heading to brown's camp I could join up with. If not then we could make our own group.

I'm not sure about rating. I don't play in the rocks. I like trail runs like firebreak 5, archer's, and cedar tree. Stuff like that.

I'm thinking that Saturday.

Any other good spots for a day trip? You think the Barlow road will be passable by then?

Our Wrangler group is making a run up to long beach on that Saturday, hitting the beach then having lunch in town then driving back down the beach. It was our first group event so it's kind of like a second annual thing LOL

Ok. Saturday May 26 meet at Gresham Fred Meyer near the gas station. Depart from there at 8:30 am and head up Mt Hood to travel part of the Barlow Trail. Lots to see. Bring a camera.

Still working out details, but the plan is to go out hwy 26 to Pine Grove and head up through white river canyon and through Smock Prairie to the Barlow Trail and work back toward hwy 35. Should be a full day with lots of photo opps and scenic places to stop for lunch. We will likely see some snow up in the higher elevations of the trail.

Hopefully we can get a decent size group for this trek.

Matt, I posted this on Wrangler Forum also. Maybe there's a few people there also interested in going with us.

So after talking to the ranger again we have decided it is a bit early in the year for this trip. Many trees down and lots of snow still. So instead we are planning to spend the day in TSF. The trask unit should have far less people clogging up the trails. Is like to meet at the Glencoe deli across from McDonald's at the North Plains exit of hwy 26 at 8 am on Saturday the 26th. Anyone interested please feel free to join us.

That was the plan originally. The ranger I spoke with made it sound like we might spend most of the day cutting wood only to be met by feet of snow. He said the trail is not passable yet and we would have to backtrack out to hwy 48 to get out. There is another group planning the Barlow trail trip aroung the end of June. Still want to do it, just want to have a better chance at a pleasurable trip.

A day in the trask unit is always a good time. Nothing hardcore, but still some challenging features tight trails and impressive views. Toured that area with the jolly jeepers. Really a beautiful area and far less packed than browns.
