anyone know how to set gears?

I'm in the Eugene area and just put in a 8.8 under my TJ. I want to regear it but I'd like to learn how rather than pay someone to do it.
I'm willing to pay someone to help if you know what your doing.

I know a couple of shop owners in the area and a couple of mechanics would you like me to ask them?

Dunk's doesn't set up gears, they send it to a guy who does it for them. He screwed me and set the shims up wrong. The pattern was good, till the shims puked out.

I don't recall the rates, but it wasn't too bad.
