Wj Wow, i feel dumb... MY BAD!

SO, i deleted my original thread on accident... i feel so stupid right now. I'm still pretty new to this whole forum thing. Hell, i'm extremely new to this whole off-roading thing that all this information is making my head spin.

I have a 2000 WJ that has some grinding and knocking going on underneath it. it has the quadra-drive system in it, not sure if i'm going to be able to do alot of what i'd like to do to my rig with that... but i'm hoping while on here i can get some information on it.

I'm planning on putting some ECGS dana 60's front and rear with 488's in them under it in the future, Powerlocker electronic lockers, an IROR 6.5 inch premium lift kit, 36 or 37 inch goodyear MTR/kevlars, not sure what kind of wheels yet, i'd like to put an internal r.o.p.s. and i'm not sure if i'm going to have to change out the transfer case yet... also, not sure on what i'm going to be able to do about the steering... hopefully somebody makes something that will adapt my steering to my wheels.

i took it out for the first time tonight and finally got it "kinda" stuck. Well... i just needed a bit of traction aide...

god damn i love jeeping!
once again, any and all data that anybody could give me would be well appreciated! I hope everybody is being safe and having a great time around the holidays.

ROPS huh? Machinery operator by any chance?
I deliver Cat machinery all over the west, so kind of familiar with it myself...
The ECGS 60 is pretty decent value IMO.
Like I said in your last post though, we wheel a XJ on 37's pretty hard with the JK Rubicon axles, and they work great.
60's are 35's and bigger tire territory in my experience. So consider carefully what you want the rig to do, then do it once.
It is nice to be able to beat on it at times, and not fear a busted axle shaft etc though, so if the 60's are in your budget, go for it.

This.

I hope that this WJ is not your daily driver and that you have another rig that you drive to and from wherever you go.

With that being said, it seems that your budget is pretty wide open and unlimited (lucky bastard ), so go wild.

As far as your T/C goes, you may want to research swapping in a 242HD T/C into your rig so that you have selectable 2wd/4wd and hi/lo options.

Just like everyone else, pick a direction and head in that direction, don't change it half way through. You'll lose a lot money that way, even if you are able to sell all the old **** off to fund the new ****.

Yeah dizzle, That is exactly what my friends here at the mine said. pick a direction and run with it and don't change your mind.... with 60's i'm pretty sure that what every direction i chose they won't be breaking anytime soon! and if i ever choose to get a different vehicle i can take the 60's out of the wj and put them in that... but i REALLY like this jeep! and yeah Left lane i DO work at a gold mine, but i'm an electrician. and i saw a post about a wrecked jeep that had an internal rops and i was IMPRESSED!. i was like... i want to do that with mine!

no my budget isn't unlimited... right now... soon we'll be getting a hefty raise and after i buy my house i'll be working on this pig. Yeah i'm planning on armoring the hell out of it with some pretty 1/4 inch diamond plate steel... my front bumber will have a 45 degree skid plate that pretty much protects the whole motor, which will come in handy. BUT, these are all just plans for the future. i'm juggling ideas around in my head and seeing what other people think about them, seeing where i might be thinking wrong and where i'm thinking right.

I appreciate the hell out of ya'lls info.

Delivered and loaded at a lot of mines up there myself. Good pay but crap conditions IMO! That neck of the woods in winter time....

If you're dropping $10k on the D60's, you sure as hell better get rid of the stock TC. Get an Atlas!

Also, I'm pretty sure the ECGS front D60 comes with steering (tie rod and draglink).

also, no, this isn't my primary rig, i've been crawling with pals before and i've been looking for awhile for a rig that was cheap that i could build up myself... and this thing came my way at 1000 bucks... so, i'm not too worried about breaking it at this time. because i'm going to pretty much rebuild it anyways. so meh. My primary rig is a ford f150 ecoboost xlt, and i love it. Probably going to be my Hauler when i get a trailer to pull this thing to moab and rubicon and the Elko rock parks. i can take it ALL over the valley that i currently live in for practice now though.

yeah, winter out here can get pretty inhospitable... but that's the desert for you. did you ever deliver to round moutain Leftlane? that's where i work. there are ALOT of great places to go wheelin out here.

And stoked... if i were to get an atlas... would i also have to change out the transmission? and the center console so i would still have a shifter ? or would i have to just replace all of that also? and what exactly would i do when "building my own T/C" on the atlas website? i have no idea what i'm looking at there. Maybe i'll have to run it by my mech's at work.

thanks again for the input. you all will never be able to know how grateful i am... unless we meet up and go wheeling. !

When you get the iro lift kit or any long arm kit for that matter you can continue to use your stock tie rod and drag link till you decide its time to upgrade. If your gonna drop the coin on the front 60 from ecgs just go ahead and get it with the steering option they offer to beef that up as well.

No need to change the transmission. Just pull and replace the transfer case and gonna have to get both front and rear driveshafts, so it would be cost effective to get both axles and the atlas in one shot to not have to worry about the driveshafts twice. Not mine, but this is a shot of how some people set up the atlas dual shifters in a WJ.

so... i've been doing some reading this morning before shift... and i found this website, oddly enough through facebook... go figure. And also for those of us that thought that the WJ isn't a very capable wheeler... i also read that it won some pretty good accolades for the FOURWHEELER magazine 1999 and 2002 four wheeler of the year competitions! This is something that i did not know! And, i was already planning on putting a 6.5 inch lift with some bigger tires... now i'm thinking i'll go with the mickey thompson 17" classics. The powerblock guy says they are some pretty *****in wheels, so i'll look into them. I still think i want to go with the goodyear MTR/kevlars... we have some pretty hefty sagebrush out here and i want as much protection as i can muster up. Also, after crawling a bit in it last night i think i might go with an exterior rops... i really liked having the heater turned up and the ability to warm up after getting the pig unstuck! that was a really nice feature if i do say so myself! i hope ya'll like this video! i can't wait until part 2 comes out!
