Wj A Word of caution...

....for those about to deal with their tailgate glass...

So over the weekend I went to replace mine as the demister peg had came off and wouldn't restick no matter how I tried, so I got a new glass off a 2004. I'd used the search engine and read that it was an easy job to replace, no more than half an hour well in standard repair terms mine went totally down hil resulting in me needing new struts and new hinges.. the plastic was brittle and broke like pencil lead..its a thirteen year old vehicle so you'd expect something like this...

So I've spent all morning sourcing the parts to put my baby back together again and well ...two new hinges, gaskets, grub screws all in are 180 notes!!! The biggest part of this is the hinges at a whopping 60 notes a piece!! So be very careful if you do decide to tackle the rear glass otherwise your wallet is about to be raped!!!

ah yeah thought about just scraping the defroster lines off mine. the previous owner must've scratched them up so half of them don't work anyway.

I would just do without. I have the limited so the side mirrors are heated and depending what I'm hauling, I can't see out the back anyway.

Interesting. I had my rear hatch replaced after an accident, they re-used my stock '04 glass and it didn't appear to have any issues.

Im not sure if you have this in scotland or not, but my TJ had the defroster peg break off and I just went to the store for $14 and bought permatex defogger repair kit.... For all the money you spent, I think I would have tried that from US ebay before getting killed on those prices...

That was the stuff I used - and no matter how much preparation I did it still refused to stick. Would get it to stick the turn a corner and *Ping* off it went...Hence new glass!
