WJ wiring diagram

does anybody know or have a way to view the wiring diagrams for my jeep?

i recently had a wiring mishap and burned up a wire or 2 between my fuse box, cigar lighter, rear window defroster, and battery. the cigar lighter and rear window defroster both don't work.

I'm trying to track down the problem. Its not a blown fuse under the dash, that's all i know right now.

all help will be appreciated

curious, umm did you ever consider pulling the current off of the fog light relay or the lights themselves? I just did the same thing for my off-road lights but I just bought a lighted switch in the first place. Yeah I'd just tap into (and waterproof it properly if your in the engine bay) the fog lamp harness and just run a wire. Not worth playing around in the junction boxes

well the problem is my rear window defroster and cigar lighter dont work anymore because i tried to tap directly into the fuses not thinking it would draw much current for just the switch. i guess i was wrong

i bet i burned up a wire either between the fuse box under the dash and the cigar lighter or between the fuse box and the next junction box it goes to...

if anyone with electrical skills could at least point me to a better place to ask this question that would be helpful too thanks.

well I'm a master at 12v wiring but I still am trying to figure out how this happened. As you said the light shouldnt be drawing that much current so we have to find out what went wrong. We need to figure out exactly where it went wrong. According to the wiring diagrams, the cigar lighter is a red wire,, trace it out of your junction box to your lighter. Also, if I'm correct there are two ports in Grand Cherokees, a cigar lighter and a power outlet. Are both not working?

the defogger is more complicated so I need some more time to figure that one out for you

i plugged a little piece of metal in with a fuse just to try to get it to work... its for a set a hella 700ffs by the way... i tired this on the cigar lighter and it worked for a about 1min or less. then on accident i went to the one next to the cigar fuse (the rear window defroster) and blew something there also.

the other 12vplug on the right hand side (one w/o cigar lighter) still works though???

Ahh yeah hellas will definately burn something up. they probably pull 15+ amps on their own so that probably did it. The wires going to the fuses are only rated for a certain amperage, it should be able to handle a bit more but I guess they overheated. Ok so you need to check for voltage in the fuse box. Check both cigar lighter fuse socket and rear defroster fuse socket with a voltmeter and see if you can get it to read 12v. If it doesnt, and your reading it properly, then your problem lays behind or before the junction block. That is not going to be fun to pull apart and I will probably lose you through it. When you have so many wires and components in one place it gets really confusing so I dont know how much I'd be able to help you

the power outlet still works because, as it is in mine, it is on a separate fuse and wiring from the cigar lighter. Double check your new fuses too, make sure they are in and not blown...

yeah, i was thinking about getting a long wire and testing between the junction box under the hood to the fuse box under the dash. or maybe finding a salvage yard and replacing an entire harness some where but i dont know how easy that would be right now.

ill get my hands on a volt meter though and check what i can.

i am going to fix this problem eventually

I'd say replacing the entire harness isn't worth it. To do that would involve taking everything apart. During the process, you would probably find that frayed wire or problem area and be able to repair it.

so where do you think i should start looking, under the hood, behind the dash, or underneith by the fusebox?

I say start at fusebox and see if the fuses are giving any voltage. If not trace wires to underhood and then to battery and find problem. If you have voltage. Trace wires from the fuseboxes to the components
