WJ Tube front winch bumper and rear bumper with tire carrier build
hey figured Id throw up some pics of my rear bumper and tire carrier build. The build is almost identical to shinobi's with a few basic mods. All of the tube is 1.25"x.120 and all the plate is 1/4". more pics as I make progress.

Also working on a front winch bumper as well. Constructive criticism welcome.

woww.....great work man! i wish i had access to that kinda machinery.
can you post some more pics of the rear bumper, and its mounting points?

Sohcvtec1995 12-11-2011 03:28 PM

ehh. imo i don't like it. its not clean or flush, just looks like a bunch of bars. also doesn't look like it would protect much of anything.

4x4Jeep 12-11-2011 03:41 PM

that is why it is called a tube bumper

Sohcvtec1995 12-11-2011 05:52 PM

but i would think it would at least decent and have some sort of function
sorta like this

i agree and im looking forward to where he is going with this. theres something about the rear bumper that i REALLY do like though i just cant put a finger on it.

thats nice wish I had some machinery to do this. Very nice, good welding too. Thumbs up man

StrokedWJ 12-11-2011 09:12 PM

I like the rear, and will reserve judegement on the front til more of it is completed. Very interested to see what you come up with! Looks like you've got access to some nice equipment. How hard would it be to make me a set of weld on d-ring tabs? I'd like something like this (just the triangle piece)

Msokol13 12-11-2011 09:27 PM

The front looks like something Mel Gibson should be driving in the road warrior!

I wish I had the time and room to do something like that

Sohcvtec- Im not really sure what you mean by not being flush, clean or offering protection.
as far as function I was looking for
1) increased approach angles
2) tire carrying ability for rear
3)winch carrying ability for the front

Strokedwj - I could make those relatively easily but it would be time consuming as I would be making them by hand. Check ebay for d-ring weld tabs. Theyre pretty cheap probably because there being laser or waterjet cut from longer stock.

AlwaysHI- here are some more pics of the mounting points. I welded 1/4 inch flatbar on both sides of the hitch in the rear and near the front of the hitch behind the tire are 2 other mounting points.

an updated picture of the front
I was planning on filling in the pieces below the "stinger" with dimple died sheet metal like on the rear but Ive had to put it on hold because I just graduated college and am getting ready to enter the workforce. I was also going to mount my lights but Ive had to put that on hold as well. For those who may wonder I just completed my BS in Mechanical Engineering.

current cost is around $400 so far for front and rear

thank you!

Just out of curiosity, pulsepb :
1) What are the chances you'd duplicate that build?
2) What do you figure you'd charge, parts & labor total?
3) Where are you located (would be best to have WJ there for fitment)?

I'm mulling over a spare tire mount that bases off the top of the existing tow hitch and is embedded IN the rear bumper, more or less, but I've always like the idea of DOM tube bumpers, so I'm just wanting to check out some options.

Let me know.

The time now is 08:11 PM.
