WJ Steering Wheel Swap

I did a search and found lots of threads on "death wobble" and steering alignment, but didn't find much on just changing out a steering wheel on a WJ.

Does anyone know what's involved? How difficult is it to contend with the airbag?

Thanks

1) unhook battery
2) remove two bolts on back side of steering wheel that hold air bag in
3) un-clip airbag wire harness and remove bag
4) use puller to get old steering wheel off
5) put new wheel on and reverse the steps

pretty easy

Adavis39 nailed it. Make sure you use the correct size of gear puller to get the steering wheel off. I tried making the wrong size work and ended up bending the center ring of the steering wheel. It was a complete PITA to get it bent back into the proper shape.

If you don't mind me asking, what steering wheel do you have now and what one are you going to replace it with? Mine is falling apart (leather wheel on Limited trim) and have been wanting to replace it for some time now, but can't find a decent price on one.

Seems easy enough. Thank you for spelling it out for me!

I found one at a yard on car-parts.com. I'm looking for a better deal though.

I'll let you all know how it turns out.

@Meta4 - Any idea how I could find out what the right size puller would be?

3 jaw puller rental from advance auto worked for me. Just use 2 of the jaws....
