Sumns also did something similar to that guy. When i finish mine i'll probably put out some CAD drawings for those who want to take to a shop to have it done.

Just search "I built a swing" and that bad *** one comes up that the NAVY guy made. I am actually in the middel of making one JUST LIKE IT! BUt I am making a flat surface like a roof tent thing that has a later that connects to the tire carrier... i have been planning it out for almost 1.5 years... but its almost in the making! I am freaking pumped. Sumns made one like the NAVY guys. His turned out really cool too. Cool guy if you have questions he'll help you out.

Ya, for a $120 off craigslist locally, including the crossbars, I couldn't beat my deal.

Lacking internet due to the hurricane but looking to pick this up asap, can anyone confirm this is the typical rola rack in most WJ photos here? Love the look. Thanks!

I will have to measure it tonight, I can't remember. If you go too big though, you block the sun roof (if you have that option).

Yeah I have the sunroof. I was thinking a 45x60 might fit pretty well but I havent measured yet. As long as it doesnt prevent us getting our skis up there Ill be happy.

Mine is a 45x50, and I am not sure I would want anything larger. Measure yours to see if you really want to go for the 60. It would fit, but it would be very close to the rear hatch and the sunroof. I like the balance of where mine is located, mid roof.

I feared more for the safety of myself and passengers, of the tools and other recovery items in the cargo area flying around in the event of a rollover, than I do for the higher COG possible rollover. I haven't had the WJ in an off camber situation where I felt unsafe/steady, but I don't wheel as hardcore as others. If you treat your Jeep like a Jaguar on the highway, then that's all on you. IMHO, I prefer the tire on the roof for even weight distribution on my setup. If I had a steel bumper and the tire on the back, plus other camping gear and goods in the cargo, I'd be looking into the addition cost of airbags.

How do you have your spare mounted? Did you get a spare tire carrier that worked with the rola?

Actually, I'm using the stock spare tire hook. You just have to line it up right and tighten it up good. Been on there for a good while and I haven't lost it on the highway, so I guess it works. I imagine you could do the same if you had some scrap metal and hook bolt thingy.
