Not sure whos thread it was but Ive seen it done and his turned out pretty sweet, If I remember correctly it was a Navy guys WJ.
Thanks for putting that in perspective. She sails enough as it is at 100.

I feel like in terms of weight the roof rack is gonna have more effect on the mpgs than 100lbs of steel in the back. Then again the $$$ factor tops all.
Sumns also did something similar to that guy. When i finish mine i'll probably put out some CAD drawings for those who want to take to a shop to have it done.

Surco Rack
With 33" tire, roof rack, 6" lift, brush guard, off road lights and winch on the front, dont think the spare is going to drag my mpg down much. As for getting it up there, at 6'4" 250 its not so bad to sling the spare up there.

Yakima LoadWarrior with extension. Absolutely love it. I usually remove the spare at the camp site along with anything that is not a tool. Its lightweight plus makes a great seat for watching fireworks. I'm 6' and 210#s which helps with the tire removal. I will try to find a pic from before the extension.

I guess I must've missed your build. Do you have a linkfor your 46rh swap and where you got your hood scoops?
Thanks.

I am in the process of building a swing out ,along the lines of the grey goose build ' will use the tire well for tools , will not use a hi lift i have a hyd bottle jack , and it is all i need .frees up my cargo areq for cargo. a tire and hi lift on the roof makes them top heavy , just a bad idea imho Plus being 73 y/o i can't lift a tire up there with out having a double hernia

Same Rola as the others. I wanted a Yakima MegaWarrior, but I wasn't about to dish out $300+ for a rack, and then another $200 for the cross bars. Maybe one day.
My fuel mileage has not decreased at all. The only annoyance is that sometimes the Rola screen whistles.
I feared more for the safety of myself and passengers, of the tools and other recovery items in the cargo area flying around in the event of a rollover, than I do for the higher COG possible rollover. I haven't had the WJ in an off camber situation where I felt unsafe/steady, but I don't wheel as hardcore as others. If you treat your Jeep like a Jaguar on the highway, then that's all on you. IMHO, I prefer the tire on the roof for even weight distribution on my setup. If I had a steel bumper and the tire on the back, plus other camping gear and goods in the cargo, I'd be looking into the addition cost of airbags.

imho, it's worth my personal time to buy a pre-made one than spend the time designing, buying the parts, and bending/welding one.
I've seen plenty of home made custom ones, they are awesome. I just don't have the time/patience/know how.

Not when the Rola is so affordable and looks so good on a DubJ.
