Hello all, new to this so don't laugh, I have a 1999 grand cherokee that has a shot ring and pinion gear. I don't have alot of money right now so I'm looking to go as cheap as possible. Should I rebuild or swap from salvage yard? I don't think I can set the new gears myself. If salvage I can swap myself, but I cannot for the life of me find a rear end for this thing. It has a dana 35 selec-trac. Any suggestions? Is there another jeep model that uses the same rear end? Should I just pull it and rebuild the whole darn thing? I'll buy the beers!
Search car-part.com for a used axle. The WJ axle is unique so you will only find it in other WJ's. Look for WJ's with the 4.0 to get the D35. Most of them will have 3.55's but a few will have 3.73's, so just make sure the ratio match (if yours is 4wd). If you have 2wd, the gear ratio shouldn't matter.
Was asking the OP because there is that u-pull-it in Little Rock he could go to. I have seen a few WJs there from time to time.
And cool, just graduated from school there in December. Born and raised in Little Rock. If you aren't, join up with rockcrawlers4x4.com. Great group of guys, I still check in from time to time and rocktoberfest is coming up soon. Always a blast.
turns out i have a selec-trac dana 35 3.55 gears, if any body knows what vehicles interchange with that will be helpful.
also, i used to be a member of the rockcrawlers club when i had my sammy
i'll try and get in touch with someone there too. thanx
on vehicle you can get that from is another WJ with the d35 and 3.55 gears..... d35 only came with models with the 4.0... so you should be able to find any 4.0 WJ 2wd or 4wd and swap unless it came with the tow package and then it had 3.73 gears
