wj rear end swap

Hello all, new to this so don't laugh, I have a 1999 grand cherokee that has a shot ring and pinion gear. I don't have alot of money right now so I'm looking to go as cheap as possible. Should I rebuild or swap from salvage yard? I don't think I can set the new gears myself. If salvage I can swap myself, but I cannot for the life of me find a rear end for this thing. It has a dana 35 selec-trac. Any suggestions? Is there another jeep model that uses the same rear end? Should I just pull it and rebuild the whole darn thing? I'll buy the beers!

Search car-part.com for a used axle. The WJ axle is unique so you will only find it in other WJ's. Look for WJ's with the 4.0 to get the D35. Most of them will have 3.55's but a few will have 3.73's, so just make sure the ratio match (if yours is 4wd). If you have 2wd, the gear ratio shouldn't matter.

If you have 3.73, you can get a D35 with those gears (might be hard to find) or a Dana44a out of a V8 grand. They all had 3.73 so one of those would work.

Where you from in Arkansas?

And cool, just graduated from school there in December. Born and raised in Little Rock. If you aren't, join up with rockcrawlers4x4.com. Great group of guys, I still check in from time to time and rocktoberfest is coming up soon. Always a blast.

on vehicle you can get that from is another WJ with the d35 and 3.55 gears..... d35 only came with models with the 4.0... so you should be able to find any 4.0 WJ 2wd or 4wd and swap unless it came with the tow package and then it had 3.73 gears

Related Q:--Will i be able to directly swap an rear diff from an 03 WJ into my 01? Both are D44's, with 3.73 gears. I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work out, but thought i'd get a 2nd opinion.

Gracias amigos

Don't forget, selec-trac is the transfer case. Nothing to do with the axles.
