WJ Overland not running well ideas

My Overland whilst on holidays recently after great performance failed to start first go as usual, when it did start it missed and appeared to run on way less than 8 cylinders. Dealer has checked and replaced #2 injector that was not working, vehicle still will not run properly. They checked the wiring harness and believe it is ok. Now believe the ECU is faulty and are trying to source a new or remanufactured one. Does anyone in the US sell remanufactured ECU's or where is the best to buy a new one. Maybe there is an after market unit that will suit the HO engine? Thanks Trev

I would extract the codes at a minimum. I assume that you were getting a P0302. Any other ones? If one injector was bad, it is entirely credible that others were bad too. I did three on the WJ a couple years ago.

I would check out eBay and car-part.com for used or re-manufactured parts.

A bad PCM is not very common.

Has the dealer tried swapping the #2 coil pack yet?

The coil packs are interchangable amongst the cylinders, so they can be easily swapped. Then if the misfire follows the coil pack, you know you have a bad one.

As I understand it the coil pack does not control the injector that is not firing fuel into the cylinder.

There are some good places that will recondition the ECU. Goggle it.

Just for a good horror story. Check compression. My 4.7 started to idle badly and run on 7 cylinders. It did finally generate a check engine code P0308 - misfire on cyl 8. Long story short $1200 to replace a sticking exhaust valve.
