WJ electical issues

my 99 WJ has had electrical problems since I have it. The gauges don't work and the heat/ac doesn't work. I fixed 3 wires that were broken in the drivers door and now it starts but quits after 2 seconds. Anyone help with this?

exactly 2 seconds? Then the SKIM module is unplugged/shorted. I bet you have a Key symbol on the dash with a line through it.

no fan, heat comes out at your feet. all this stuff happened all at once. could it be a bcm problem?

It could be a grounding issue. The AC and SKIM module share the same ground point, so does the instrument cluster.

rep-tile, is that ground the one behind the radio? I just got a wiring diagram from a friend at a dealer. A little overwhelming...

Go figure. I do know they've changed the location of the ground over the years, recent WJs have it near the airbag module underneath the center floor console (passenger compartment), older ones may have it behind the light switch.

Regardless of the year, the primary ground location is between the negative of the battery and the frame, all ground points (except for the engine grounds) depend on it. Inspect your grounds very carefully, they might look fine in appearance, but you could find corrossion or rust once you take them apart. Inspect the positive battery cable as well. The OEM battery cables are junk to start with, so it is very common to find corrosion there.

borrowed a scan tool. says not communicating with drivers door, serial link malfunction, and EMS status malfunction. I understand the door issue, the other 2 I have no idea about. could it be the door module has gone bad or a bcm problem?

Wj Hi guys

I'm a noob around here, but I have a similar problem with the temp controls that occurred after I replaced the factory HU. The ground was attached to the back of the stereo that I removed, along with a connector that appears to have two wires.

Replaced PCM. Gauges work, doors work, fan works, overhead works. But, still no heat.

You mentioned before that heat would find its way out of the floor vents when the fan was not working? Is your fan now working, but you have no heat coming from any vents? Heard any strange clicking noises inside the dash?

The fan is working. There are noises coming from under the dash and there is no heat. The AC needs recharged, could this be the problem?
