WJ Codes - P0138, P0700, P1494

Yesterday I pulled some codes on my Jeep (1999 Grand Cherokee 4.7L) using the key in the ignition method.

Current problems that I notice on my Jeep:
  • Check engine light on
  • Exhast sort of white with a strange scent
  • Transmission shifts hard

Codes I got:
  • P0138: O2 Sensor Circuit No Activity Detected (Bank 1 Sensor 2)
  • P0700: Check Transmission DTC's (This code indicates that the EATX (Transmission controller) has an active fault and has illuminated the MIL via a BUS message. The specific fault must be acquired from the EATX via a DRBIII tool. (Input or Output Speed Sensor failures often cause this code and are a common failure part on WJ Grand Cherokees).)
  • P1494: Leak Detection Pump Sw or Mechanical Fault (Incorrect input state detected for the Leak Detection Pump (LDP) pressure switch.)

Can someone please help me better explain what these are? If they need to be fixed or if the car is safe to drive? Could any of these cause the unusual exhaust?

p0138- clean your 02 sensor and maybe you will have to replace it. dont take my word on this but im pretty sure its the last one by the cat

What do you do about P1494? My jeep just had this come up...

The P1494 may not be the pump itself. When I got that code it turned out to be just an old hose that needed to be replaced. It won't harm your engine at all but you won't pass emissions either.

I can actually hear the leak. I'll have to take off the bumper and look.

Okay so I didnt find anything..... I cleared the code and its staying off.. I wounder what will happen!

So to no surprise t CEL ame back on this morning, what should I start checking? The code is p1494

All your hoses from the pump are good? Maybe it's the pump itself?

I'll check the hoses more today, maybe the gas cap? I had a friend say it could be a vaccum leak. Anyone have anymore ideas? Could it be the sensor itself? And where is it?

Mine has the same code. I need to check hoses yet but thought i'd be armed with as much info as I can

2000 WJ- 4.7L HO swap, 247, 4" tera-flex lift, 32's, KOR Rock Rails, IRO Skid, etc...

Mine shorted out and I had to replace it. I have seen cracked hoses cause that. Also.. There is a filter in there you can get from the dealer for $10. I have seen that too.
