WJ 247-->242 Swap Questions

hi all, not sure if this is the right area for this, so let me know if it's not and i'll move it...

picked up a 242J out of a 1990 xj last week. I'm going to be overhauling it this summer and swapping it into my 2003 WJ for the current 247 to get rid of the full-time 4wd. Since this came out of an I6, and is going into a v8, i understand i need to take the output shaft out of my 247 and swap it into the 242 so that it mates. is that the only modification I should need to perform? I have both front and rear driveshafts for the donor case, and they're both double cardan. the rear looks new and custom, and the front is obviously well used. going to take them to a local drivelie shop before the install and see if they can be used. if not, i'll sell em on here.

found this on fleabay. would it be suitable so i don't have to crack the case on my 247? i'd like to keep it as a spare or maybe sell it....http://www.ebay.com/itm/310385362651...84.m1423.l2649

It's a Jeep, it's not supposed to work right all the time.

More appropriate section for this.

You will not be able to put your long input shaft into that early model case. You need one built after 1995 to do that.
There's already a couple excellent threads here that answer every possible question you could have.

'97 zj 5.2, some stuff, some other suff, and some things that even work sometimes.
