Arrow Winter tires same size but wider than summer tires

Last August I bought my first WJ, a 2004 Limited Edition (stock).
I owned a 99 XJ for 4 years.
Just LOVE the WJ, I should of done it earlier.
Anyway, Th WJ came with Wrangler SR-A 245/70-16 tires. Here in Québec the law states that we need winter tires from December to March.
So I was able to put my hands on 4 used Cooper Discoverer 245/70-16.
Darn, those suckers are one inch wider. Just love the look of beefier tires, and I'm lucky they don't rub at all.
Just wanted to share this oddity

may just be me, but i prefer narrower tires in all but the deepest of snow. cuts through to the pavement better.

wide looks nice tho.

Narrow(er) tires always bite better in the snow as the pressure at the contact patch is increased. Same weight, smaller area = more pressure on each tread block, which bites better in snow and in theory, resists hydroplaning with all other things being equal.

Wider tire (larger contact patch) gives better flotation over sand in the same spirit of all other things equal.

Yes thats the theory, i have had 245 tires on my Jeep the last 3 winters in Norway without any problems, the heavier the vehicle is the wider tire you can Go with.
I have had No problems with grip or aqua planning at all. On ice i Think a wider tire is better cause you Will Get more/better traction due to wider contact surface. On the WJ's 245 is no problem at all and i Will try 255 NeXT time i Will buy new tires. But thats me, works great for me in Norway, and we have LOTS of snow.

Wrangler SR-A's tend to run narrow compared to other tires I have seen. My wife had them on her 02 Dakota and they were definitely much narrower than the tires we replaced them with (same size)
