Window Tint fail test

Just brought my jeep for motor test (NCT in Ireland) and the front drivers and front passenger door fail as being below 65% VL

as far as I'm aware this is the film tint fitted from the factory in Europe being that its a WG grand cherokee 3.1TD its the same film tint on all windows except the windscreen.
I have no way of measuring the tint level but if I was to guess I would say its a light tint.

has anyone else experience this or had issues with motor test

Can't be factory tint. From the factory the fronts are much lighter than the rear windows on Euro spec Jeeps. Out with the scraper and the thinners!

That and if it's a film you can remove it's not factory. The factory tint is embedded in the glass and not able to be removed.

I was hoping it would be factory tint so I could dispute this with tester as I read factory is 18~ 20

Had a tint problem here in the States. Massachusetts has an issue with tinted windows and I got a fine for tinted windows that I thought were factory. Seems the windows would have been fine in other State. Since I bought it that way I had the dealer fix the tint, so ultimately I have no idea if they were factory or not, but it seems just making them compliant is the best way to go.

Have things calmed down there over the Flag vote?

My jeep failed road test because of tint
Looks like I may have no choice but removed tint from front doors.
It looks light enough and same as all WJs ive seen here... I'm grasping at straws and I know it

The flag issue is still on going but its getting less media attention. The unionists in NI can be bigoted and totally against Irelands reunification and its only a small element that are causing trouble mostly in Belfast. Refusing to accept their own democracy in Northen Ireland. You can probably guess I'm from republic of Ireland and time has moved on, England is no longer the enemy execpt in the rugby. But a few points before and after the game its hard tell the supporters apart.

My last straw was that the window tint film was fitted by Jeep but I'm not sure this is true. It might be that it was just popular option from dealers and is no longer compliant with EU law...

Definitely not fitted by Jeep at the factory. I had mine fitted aftermarket. It is just a film, easy enough to remove with a stanley knife blade & thinners

Other forums suggest the tint level is 35%.
Time for removal? Haven't tried it, but a heat gun rocks at removing other vinyls.

The factory stuff is definitely not 35%, at least not in the states. Virtually all factory tint is right about 20%, and again, at least in the states, front windows never come tinted more than the occasional 70% or so, which is not even noticeable.

I don't think the front windows are even tinted from the factory, if they are it's really light... I thought factory "privacy glass" was only on rear doors and rear glass?

My rears were way darker than the front doors.

My build sheet says:

GCBS - Front tinted glass
GEGS - Deep tint sunscreen glass
GBBS - Tinted windshield glass (I'm assuming the top part)

The front windows are tinted from the factory, but it's like a 95% tint. Basically just blocks some UV rays to help protect the interior. For all intents and purposes, it's not tinted.

Very dangerous at night, glad it's been caught before you've caused an accident.
