Why would one remove front axles?
Why would someone remove the front axles before selling a JGC? Just to hide the fact that the transfer case is blown up or??

do you mean front drive shaft?
I needs a front axle, whether 2WD straight axle or 4WD diff housing, to sit on wheel.

I was just wondering what could be blown up that someone wouldn't want you to find by removing those drive shafts. Only thing that came to mind was the TC.

No - the drive shaft is there. Sorry for not knowing my terminology. The 2 rods that sit inside the tube - each rod spins a tire... Thought those were axles.

They're axles... but the language gets confusing because they are also part an apparatus called an axle.
My guess is something broke (CV joint, diff, etc) and they removed them rather than spend the $ on fixing it. To deliberately not report this to a buyer is reprehensible, sleazy behavior but it's been my observation that there are enough sleazeballs out there we've all got a responsibility to stay on our toes. Let the buyer beware, as they say.

The guy I bought it from was a total dirt bag. After purchasing it, I found out the check engine light was not on... not because the car was fine, but because he removed the dash and pulled out the light bulb. Total scum.
Anyways, my CV joint was messed up and it left a lot of play in the drive shaft. (I think thats the front most part of the drive shaft where it connects to the carrier?) It was so bad, it was about to just fall off when I bought it so I replaced that in my uncles driveway. I was getting ready to take it to a shop, assuming my TC also needed replaced, but now... yeeesh.

BTW - what should I expect to pay for a set of axles to replace my missing ones. Obviously used, I presume new would be outrageous.

Replacement WJ drive axles aren't costly, I picked up a pair of new (not remanufactured) ones from autozone.com for $53 each, they shipped them to me free and sent me a $25 autozone gift card so the net cost for the pair, after tax was less than $90 delivered (taking into account the gift card)

oh - I was thinking along the lines of what I paid for my 31 spline axles on my 8.5". I remembered those were a few hundred. That's not too bad. That just makes it extra annoying. I still would have bought the thing for the same price had he just told me the problems outright. It was a dealer too. F-ing dirt bag

There is an autozone about 2 seconds from my house. I will order a pair about a week before I take my jeep in to have the TC replaced. I'll have the guy there take a look at it for me.

Since you guys know a lot about this - I have noticed another issue like 2 or 3 times over the last 2 months. When I take a hard left turn, and hit the gas (if traffic is coming) the RPM's kind of build up as if I'm in neutral. when I lay off the gas, the car starts to drive again normal. Doesn't jerk or anything. I got a new fuel pump put in about 9 months ago, so I know thats not why there is a loss of power, and the building RPMs kind of throw me off. This has only happened on sharp left turns when hitting the gas. Any ideas?

It could be that he didn't need 4wd and wanted the mpg savings.
