Who replaced top axle bushing with johnny joint?

Someone had a pic of a fix for the front axle bushing that is a pain to replace. Instead of using another rubber bushing they pressed in a johnny joint or something similar. I'm looking for that thread again and couldn't find it...any help?

There have been several people that have swapped to the JJ. Greg was one of them. I plan to put it in mine too.

Here's the joint. This is the one with the 1/2" bolt. They also make one with a smaller 7/16" bolt too.

For a stock replacement do I need the 7/16" JJ or the 1/2"?

The 7/16's is the stock size. You can step up to the 1/2" but you'll just have to drill out hole in the upper arm a little bit. Piece of cake if you have one of the step drill bits...

I put the 1/2" version in my UCA mount when I did the front 3-link. I used a ball joint press borrowed from Autozone and it worked very well.

Thanks, that's what I was thinking (ball joint press), I guess it only makes sence to step up to the 1/2" then. I'm going to use the JJ on the drivers' side and a new rubber on the passengers' side until I can get the IRO front long arm kit.

Yeah, if you're planning to go with the IRO front long arms (which only use 1 upper) I would highly recommend stepping up to the 1/2 bolt size.

Old thread but do the 1/2" bolts work with the caster brackets on the Iro long arms?
