Whistling sound, but stops when brake is pushed

Just as the title says. There is a whistling sound and if I light push the brake pedal in it will go away. Once I let off it comes back.

If it is a 'hissing', the brake booster is bad. The brake booster has several internal diaphrams. When a rupture develops, the booster 'hisses'. Depressing the pedal temporarily stops the hissing.

Do a search for brake booster, or hissing. There are lots of threads.
