Whining only in first gear.

So ever since I got the transmission rebuilt on my WJ it makes a whining noise in 1st gear only. I've taken it to the trans shop and they said it wasn't the transmission and its not throwing any codes. The whining stops as soon as it goes into 2nd every time. It starts again when dropping into 1st. All logic would tell me that it would have to be transmission related based on the consistency of it. Trans fluids are fine, good color, no burnt smell. Any ideas?

Mine does that too but my old 2002 4.7 Dakota did the exact same thing from the day I bought it until the day I sold it with 100K miles. No issue with it.

Wonder if they filled it with ATF+4 rather than the generic Dexron/Mercon stuff ?

Hmmmm, I don't know. What would be the difference between the two and which one should I have?

Both my uncles Durango 4.7s do it and my jeep 4.7 does it.. I'm assuming it's just a Mopar thing should be fine.

Mine whines in first with brand new ATF+4 in it. Just had the fluid changed a week ago and no change in the whining or and shifting but the trans was shifting nice and smooth and no slipping before (shifts almost too smooth IMHO). Looking at the orange color of the old (no burning smell) fluid I doubt the fluid was ever changed up until now. 102K on the clock.

Anyone that wants to put the "generic Dexron/Mercon stuff " in your WJ needs to be shot with a dirty bullet...
