Wheel bearing trouble..

Hey guys first time posting here on JF. Anyway I replaced my leaky rear wheel seals in september. My co-worker and I stayed late and tag teamed the seals and bearings. He did the right, I did the left... Well last week something popped while I was driving and started grinding like crazy I thought I was gonna die lol. So i limped it home with the grinding sound and it went away. Got home pulled the rear wheels and the right side bearing was destroyed. So i spent a few hours cleaning the axle shaft and tube up with fine grit sandpaper, pressed a new Federal Mogul bearing and seal onto the axle and went with it.Everything went together nice. No play anymore. Also changed the pads while i was there and noticed the left side has started leaking again too. Only been about 4k since I did that one. Anyway now my big issue is at 40+ mph it smells like gear oil bad but everything is dry underneath. Any ideas anyone? I just think its total B.S. to replace a $50 bearing every time it needs a $7 seal.
