Wj What the heck is it?

2004 JGC Laredo 4L 6cyl 4x4. Picture this, if you will: Hood opened, looking towards the left side, and down, below the battery and fuse case...you're above the wheel well, there the top of the shock absorber...going down a little more...there's the coil on the right, and just below the coil, and a little to the left of it, sticking out of the firewall...is a 1/2" liquid or vacuum fitting, that sticks out of the firewall. It appears to be plastic, maybe with a lip on the end, but it does not look like it's for high pressure. My problem is: There's nothing connected to it, and no dangling hoses or connections, or anything. What should be there???

Wow, plenty of detail there, Left= Right side of jeep =Passenger btw
Okay, all that said, it's the vent for the heater/AC core.
