Hell yeah the 5.9. My roommate has one already. He has 3" exhaust, no cat, and glasspacks on it. We threw a 242 in it with a locker in the rear. It's pretty fun. And by pretty fun, I mean breaking the tires loose at 30 mph makes me giggle like a 12 year old school girl. Can't wait to get one of my own! (A 5.9, not a school girl... weirdos)
QD is not AWD it's full time 4 wheel drive.
There is a difference between AWD and 4WD.
AWD all wheels are always getting power.
4wd is variable
To add on top of this. Quadra-trac 1 is AWD but most WJs did not have it. If you have QT1 you do not have a 4wd selector or low range its just AWD. That is the YouTube video we were linked to. That system is much more common in WKs.
Quadratrac 2 is automatic 4wd on demand but not AWD. Most if not all torque to the rear wheels until they slip and a hydraulic pump progressively engages 4wd (its so quick usually you don't ever notice). You won't get any noticeable gains in mileage with a 242 because the 247 is usually RWD essentially. The only way to see a mileage gain is to get disconnectable hubs for the front, else the axle and driveshaft are still spinning regardless of transfer case position.
Quadradrive is just quadratrac2 with limited slip diffs.
