FINALLY got my Jeep back out of the shop (18 days), with a brand, spankin-new engine rebuild completed. I had to take a picture, it hasn't been this clean since it left the showroom.

Well, the engine ticking I've have for the last year or so recently became a much louder clacking. The clacking only lasted about four days before the engine gave out at 162,719 miles. Right up until the point where the engine died, it ran great. If you couldn't hear the noise, you would have never known there was a problem. These I-6s are some tough engines.

These pics are the remains of piston #1 (front piston in the 4.0 liter I-6). The rest of it was in the oil pan.

That crack goes all the way through the piston. The only things keeping it in one piece are the rings and the wrist pin.

This last pic is of the spark plug that came out of that same cylinder.

$2,450 + tax

I also had them replace one of the motor mounts so that was an additional $146+ tax.

Also, this isn't a crate engine; it's a rebuild of my original long block, performed locally. All new rotating parts were replaced except the crank, which was machined.

My ex-wifes 04 WJ 4.0 wore a hole in one of the lifters at around 120K, she couldn't afford the $2800 repair bill, so she left the Jeep sit at the dealership...

So you coulda added a crank and rods from a 4.2 and came out with a 4.5L...

Swapped both upstream O2 sensors for Bosch O2s. The left side was a direct fit piece but the right side was a cut an splice universal sensor. I like the way the bosch sensors are made vs the factory sensors and the response time is much better than before.
