NEVER BUY A JEEP!!! IT IS A GREAT FAIL!!!

I made my mind. Jeep is a very great money and time waste..
I owned a jeep for one year. And I haven't spent a nice weekend since. As I have to spend it at the mechanic shop. WTF????

I'm going to Mercedes-Benz.. Mainly S320 / S500

Great luxury heavy armored vehcile. No headache...

Sorry to say it.. But jeep has a long way to go to become a reliable vehicle.

Issues that I had throughout the year of having a 99' WJ GC I6:

- Differentials Amazing NOISE
- Gearbox
- Power Steering Pump & Poly
- Steeing Rod
- Bushings
- Bearings
- Radiator (full mess) Still overheating even after radiator rebuilding.
- A/C leaking water into the passenger floormat (pain in the A**)
- Electric shorts
- Dead Dynamo
- Some more stuff here and there (that I can't even remember)

I bought it around 3,267.00 USD

Total expenses through the year = 4,000 USD

I would never suggest WJ to anyone .......

Sorry you got a bad WJ but don't stereotype the model because you got a lemon or one that was abused in its prior life. I've owned mine for over a year now and spent a grand total of $20 fixing a thermostat gasket. What an unreliable POS, pshhh. Also if you learned to work on it yourself (thats why this forum exists not to brew hatred) you wouldn't have those outrageous repair bills or that bad radiator rebuild that the mechanic obviously screwed up. Everything you've listed doesn't go bad in one year it was ready to be replaced when you bought it (meaning you didn't inspect it well enough prior to purchase) Good luck with any and all repair bills with that $70,000+ Rubix cube and good riddance!

Drove mine in freezing cold. It's 5 degrees F outside and with 40 mph wind it feels a lot colder. Jeep working like a charm.
To the poster saying jeep is a POS: you should have gotten a V8 seriously, you shouldn't judge an entire brand based on experience with one vehicle. My jeep has been the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned.

For the record: an apartment complex is definitely not the prime place to use seafoam. I had 2 people come down and ask if everything was alright because they saw a huge bellow of smoke coming from the jeep lol
Same here. Got one on 3 and 8 now. Gonna go to.the beach today and run some injector cleaner. That's a lot of smoke...i stood around waiting for a cop to roll up or something when I did mine in a residential neighborhood

Sounds about right for a 13 year old vehicle that probably wasn't cared for. See, that's why we check for problems BEFORE handing over more than its worth. Do a little research or the rest of your life will be verrrry interesting

You do realize that 1999 was one of the Chrysler-Daimler years.... Daimler = Mercedes... good luck with that Mercedes.

I can't believe someone can be such an irresponsible (edit) to state this in a serious manner.

You bought a 13 year old USED vehicle at about 10% or so of the of the price of the vehicle when new, and don't bother to state the mileage. You heard some obvious noises that would indicate a need for repair dollars, and got some unexpected suprises; we all have experienced this to some degree.

Now you want to pass judgement that the Chrysler WJ Jeep product as a whole as a failure?

Hey, I love my Jeeps, but I too am disappointed in some of the common design or build quality flaws we are all familiar with. Every other brand has its shining stas and black eyes too. Add to that harsh environment, normal wear and tear, and abuse and neglect. Dealing with used vehicles has its perils.

So, you are going to bad-mouth Jeep to others because of your ridiculously unrealistic assesment?

Jeep didn't fail, YOU did.

Are you one whose problems are always your friend's, parent's, boss', the cop's, the lawyer's, the judge's, the jury's fault?

I replaced both my side view mirrors. Now I have a driver's side that goes up and down like it should and a passenger mirror that is not cracked. $59 shipped for the pair of power heated mirrors on Ebay. I do not miss the memory or auto dim at all and I saved myself a ton of money because the auto dim memory OEM mirrors are ~$170 each.

Spent the morning pulling stupid people out of the streets here in Denver.. Some people just can't understand why their two wheel drive truck or front wheel drive car can't make it through the snow.. I really wanted to call them stupid to their face, however, I reserved that for when I was alone and pulling them down the street.. But now she is safe at home where the morons of the world can't plow into her at 40 mph because they have an AWD Porsche SUV which makes them Superman..

A few years back, I pulled a lady's little Honda home (down the street a few blocks), seems that her little Honda car with about 4 inches of ground clearance didn't do to well on the unplowed street that was covered with about 8 inches of snow.

We've had about 8-9" so far and it will be snowing the rest of the day into tomorrow. They plows are out, but they can't keep up. It also doesn't help that there is a little ice under the snow. The truck I pulled out was a lowrider type.. S10 Extreme or whatever. He couldn't get out of a turn lane into the street, one car was stuck in the 14" of drift on the side of the road, and one was stuck in the street going up a hill.. I always ask the question, why in the hell would you not have a 4x4 or awd vehicle when you live in a city that gets 30+ inches of snow every year?
