around here they seem to. My moms insurance went up from switching from a black car to a red one. And your vin number should give them all the information to pull your paint code to get exact color anyway. Sometimes in a body shop if they can't find your paint code sticker for whatever reason a vin number can be used to find the info
Vin doesn't give paint color. Sorry. I worked in auto body and paint for years, the vehicles have paint codes placed upon the vehicle in specific spots. GM in the glove box, Fords usually on the doors, etc. My dad has worked insurance for years. Insurance will not charge more for vehicle color. The ONLY time I've EVER seen insurance charge more is if you get additional coverage for
custom paint.
It's an old myth that's gone around for years, but I can assure you, your mom's insurance went up for a different reason. Different vehicles change rate plans. My insurance actually dropped when I put the Jeep on and took my 91 GMC off. Why? Air bags, safety features, etc. Yeah, my Jeep might cost them about 5k rather than the 1200 they'd give me for the GMC, but if I get hit in the GMC my chances of getting hurt is greatly increased. Full coverage on my Jeep runs me about 65 a month, for the exact same coverage on my wife's 08 Escape it's about 98. My Jeep is red, her car is black.
So to clarify, vehicle color does not make a difference to insurance. IF you're getting charged more due to your vehicle being red, or yellow, or hot pink, then it's time to consider changing insurance companies who aren't trying to ream you.
