I think it was from a slightly older WJ; Ours is a 2004, and when I installed it, the air bag light stayed on. Taking reasonable offers if anyone wants it!

Also managed to get one piece of trim to replace the damaged piece on the dash. I was trying to get the wood trim from the nicer interios, but I found out the hard way that the dash apparently has to come apart to get the trim off from above the airbag cover. I thought it just popped in/out. Doesn't someone make decent looking stick-on applications to cover up the trim?

Other than that, I discovered that the dummy outlet in the back doesn't seem to have the harness behind the panel like some apparently do. I didn't pull the whole panel off, but I pried the fake outlet out and there's nothing obvious behind it. Kind of bummed because I wanted to (easily) add an outlet to the back. Ordered LED's for the rear license plate light... Uhhh... I guess that's about it.
Tried pm for that gauge cluster, but your inbox is full.

Have a few questions for anybody in here to answer.

When I bought my WJ it had been a repo and then repaired before it was sold. I know the ignition and the door locks are two different keys because the ignition could not be saved. Last winter I was having problems when I would lock the doors then use the key to unlock the car, it would set the car alarm off. It had gone away and just the last few days has started back up. Anybody have this problem before or know what to look for to fix it.

My second question is on the key fobs for our jeeps, do you have to have one of the black fobs and one of the gray fobs or can you just get whatever fob you want and have them programmed?

Thanks in advance

when you unlock with the key, wait till the interior lights come on. then pull the door open. I figured that out since my fob didn't work till recently.

the different colored fobs correspond to the driver 1 and 2. look at your driver door for the see preset buttons. you set seat position 1, then when ever the driver (ie husband or wife) unlock with the matching color on the door. the seat automatically adjusts, and driver two unlocks and the seat moves to position 2.

If it comes and goes, I would say that you have a short in the wireing for the door. Check your wires, they get brittle and break in the insulation.

Some of the clusters do that depending on what years used. I have an '02 in my '00 which due to slightly different wiring the seatbelt and airbag light are always on. I just black them out. They still work perfectly fine. Using a DRBIII scanner, it even tells there's an issue with the guage lights and what they are, but the system works fine. I find them easier on my eyes at night driving than the black ones is why I switched them.

Wanted to change my trim to the brushed metal, but found the same on the trim. Seems they are put in, and the plastic tabs are melted from the back side of the dash. To pull them off only ruins them. Any good vinyl wrap would work in covering them. It's just choosing what you want to use.

As for the rear outlet, I've read some have the connector, some don't. Just grab the plug harness from one that has it, and then wire it up into one of your existing ones, or run a new line with it's own fuse. Not too hard to do.

So if I am the only one who drives the WJ would I still need the two different colored fobs or would one color work?

Well could it also be the key itself. The reason I ask is because the new key for the outside of the door is like a normal house key and not the transponder key like the ignition is.

You can buy fob casings in whatever color you want and just swap them out. So it is not needed to have a gray and a black one.. that's only to signify what fob you have in your hand.

The transponder is only needed for the ignition and since you said that the doors and ignition were different I don't think it'll matter. I have an extra key that only works the doors too.

You either need a locksmith to change to door to the ignition key, or find out the key code to the door key, buy another ignition cylinder, key it to the door key, and have it programmed to the SKIM. Not sure what would be cheaper. Probably, having two keys :-) I keep a flat non-transponder spare in my pocket, just in case.
